Every time he weighs himself I feel guilty. For three years I slipped weight loss pills into his food. I was trying to kill him. I couldn't stand the guilt anymore and I was trying to end his life, since I had failed at ending my own. How can I tell him that? How can I tell him I wanted to kill him? I sit on the toilet waiting for weight to be read. "Nothing's changed." He tries to hide his excitement. He knew that he weight was getting dangerously low. "Gerard that's great."
I pat my lap and he straddles my waist and lays his head on my shoulder I sigh and hold him tightly against me.
"Are you okay Frankie? Am I getting fat?" He mumbles the last part. "No baby. It's just I'm a terrible person." He nods jokingly and I look down.
"Hey Frankie what's wrong?" He whispers.
"Gerard I've been doing something horrible."
He waits for me to continue. "Okay so you know how you lost a lot of weight?" He nods. "It's my fault." He looks confused. He always looks confused, but this time he looks hurt.
"How?" He whispers.
"Gerard I slipped weight loss medicine into your food."
"Because I'm too fat." He stands up. "I'm sorry Frankie." Wait what? He's sorry?
"No Ger-"
"I didn't mean to get this big."
"No listen-"
"I just really like food."
"GERARD!" He stops and looks at me. "I wanted to kill you."
"Oh.." He nods. "So I'm not fat." He doesn't even care that I tried to kill him!
"No. But did you hear me."
"Yeah whatever. You felt guilty... Blah..... Blah.....blah. You can't change the past, but I'm not fat, which means I can gain weight. I'm only 110 pounds Frankie. I need to gain weight." I nod.
"Okay then I'll help you."
He smiles. "Thank you."
