Chapter 6

That night I went to sleep thinking about Caleb. Did he like me the way I liked him? Surely not. I was a tribute. He was a victor. He would probably have hundreds of beautiful women swooning over him. After all, he was very handsome. I suppose because this was his first time at being a mentor he wasn't used to the boundaries that mentors should have when it came to their tributes, but I couldn't help imagining what it would be like if he loved me. But first I would have to worry about getting myself out of that arena, I hadn't even thought about what it could be..snowy mountains, vicious jungles, deadly deserts or grassy meadows. It could be anything. The next morning I was up and ready for training. I ate a couple of slices of toast and ran down to the lift. I was going to make sure that I would use as much time as possible training. I decided to go down to the snares first as I thought that it might come in handy if I needed to trap my pray. While I was in the snare station i met the two tributes from district 12 and the male tribute from 10. Allies. I thought automatically. Okay so they were from the outline districts and probably didn't have much fight in them, but safety in numbers. The boy from 10 was called Calix. He was a tall skinny boy with short blonde hair. He seemed to take quite a liking to me and taught me many things about snares and trapping. The two from district 12 both had similar characteristics. Both seemed quite weedy but smart. They both had dark hair and greyish eyes but the boy had very odd glasses. I learned his name was Zander and the girl was called Nerissa. I spent near enough the whole day with them in the training centre, we taught each other many different skills and techniques and by the end of the day we had agreed to team up and become allies. Well at least I haven't totally ignored my fathers plan. I thought. That evening I told Caleb, Pheonix and my prep team the good news. "Well that's wonderful!" Pheonix beamed. "Having allies make you a lot stronger in the games you know!" She smiled. Of course I knew this, that's why I teamed up with them in the first place I thought. But I couldn't help but smile back at her. She was too lovely to talk back to. "That sounds great Darcy, although its a shame you decided to go for the outline district tributes" Caleb sighed. "Well I'm sorry but I like these guys and I feel like their the most trustworthy out of all the tributes" I snapped back without thinking. He just laughed at me and moved on to Axe. "How about you then big guy? Meet any new friends today?" He asked sarcastically. Axe grunted something and moved over a seat away from him childishly. "Didn't think so" he smirked. That night I woke up again screaming from the nightmares. I tried to stay in bed for a little while but in the end I had to go downstairs and sit by the fire for a while. I almost jumped out of my skin when I found Caleb sitting in the seat I was just about to sink myself into. "I get them too you know" he said softly. "Get what?" I asked. "Nightmares" he whispered. I squeezed myself in the same seat and him without saying a word. "You get them about the games don't you?" He said. "Yes" i mumbled. "They get a lot worse once you've come out of the arena" he whispered. "I don't think I'll have to worry about that" I sighed. "Believe me you will" he said as he wrapped his muscular arms around my waist softly. And with that. We were both asleep in the big arm chair by the fire.
