He found the spot easily enough. The little clump of bushes he'd sat with Blaine in during the snowball fight a few weeks before.

Pushing back a tangle of branches, he crawled inside the little hollow and cleared the ground of snow with his wand. His hands were beginning to grow numb. He was wearing only his thin school robes. He welcomed the loss of feeling.

The lake was visible through the bushes, covered in a sheet of ice. Blaine had offered to take him ice-skating that weekend at lunch. He'd never done it before, but Blaine had insisted that if he could play sock hockey, he could ice-skate. He smiled a little at the memory of Blaine's laughter. And then Flint had been there, yelling and threatening Blaine.

His face felt cold where the air hit the tears rolling down it.

"I thought I'd find you here."

Kurt turned to see Blaine peering at him through the break in the branches. He waited for Kurt to move to the side to crawl in next to him.

They didn't talk. Didn't look at each other. They just stared across the snowy grounds and lake, their shoulders barely touching.

"I'm sorry," Kurt whispered after a long time. "For Flint. You didn't deserve that."

"Not your fault," Blaine said, his eyes still fixed across the lake. Kurt was reminded of the first time they'd sat on the grounds together when he'd first arrived at Hogwarts. So much had changed in the past two months.

The bell rang across the grounds from the Castle but they ignored it.

"I don't know what to do anymore," Kurt muttered, glancing over at him.

Blaine sighed. "I know. I wish I could tell you what to do," he said, his hazel eyes finding Kurt. "But you know what I want and now you know what he wants. You're the one who has to decide what you want, Kurt."

Kurt sniffed. "I want everything to be normal again," he whispered.

Blaine laid his hand gently on Kurt's shoulder. "I know," he said sympathetically. "I know you do, Kurt. I won't tell you what to do. I just want you to be happy."

Kurt nodded. He shivered slightly in the cold and saw Blaine forcing himself to not hold him. He wished he wouldn't. The warmth of Blaine's arms around him never failed to make him feel safe.

"I think," he began hesitantly. "I think I need some time. To figure all this out. On my own."

Blaine nodded, his eyes fixed across the lake again. "You need to tell Flint."

"I know," Kurt said, noting Blaine's use of Flint's first name. He wanted Blaine to hold him so badly, to tell him that everything was going to be alright. But it wasn't. No matter what Kurt chose, he was going to break someone's heart. And he hated himself for it.

Even after Blaine had left him, Kurt stayed hidden in the bushes. He produced a handful of blue flames, which he sat on the ground in front of him, warming his hands over them as he tried to work out the mix of emotions in his head.

He would have to find Flint, to tell him what he'd decided to do. The thought of it made him squirm uncomfortably. He'd didn't want to break up with Flint, but he wasn't sure if that was because he genuinely wanted to stay with him or because the idea of hurting him, of hurting someone who apparently loved him and who he'd grown so comfortable with, made him feel like a monster.

And then he thought of Blaine, who had been so understanding and patient. He didn't know how long Blaine had been in love with him, but he'd never given any indication of his feelings before the previous night. The thought that he'd been keeping everything inside himself and that Kurt had forced him to watch as he became close to Flint made him sick.
