Flint smiled as he stopped at the top of the marble staircase, staring down at where Thad was pacing across the entrance hall, gesticulating madly and obviously berating himself for kissing Flint.
"Thad," Flint said, raising his voice a little so he could be heard over the storm outside.
Thad froze, his eyes wide as he turned to look at Flint, who stepped down the staircase towards him, smiling kindly.
"Oh god, are you going to hit me?" Thad said fearfully.
Flint laughed as he reached the bottom of the stairs, shaking his head. "Of course I'm not going to hit you. Why would I hit you?"
"Because...because I k-kissed you," Thad muttered, looking worried.
"So?" Flint said. Now that he was looking at the other boy in a whole new light, he could enjoy the gentle warmth of his brown eyes, the way he creased his forehead in the tiniest of frowns as he considered Flint's reply and chewed on his bottom lip.
"Well, generally I don't go around kissing other blokes who've just help break up two of my friends because he thought he was in love with one of said friends but that I've fancied since second year when you asked if you could borrow a quill in Herbology and smiled at me and I realized that I was gay." He said this all very fast and in one breath before slumping down to sit on one of the benches and burying his face in his hands, looking as though he'd just been completely drained of all his energy.
Flint ran over what he'd said in his head a few times. "Wait...you've fancied me since second year?"
Thad nodded, making a noise of frustration and gripping his fingers in his hair.
"Huh," Flint said, considering this. "You certainly hid it well."
"Yea, well, there's a reason I'm so shy," Thad muttered. "I didn't want anyone to know so I just tried to focus all my concentration on studying instead. It got a lot more difficult to ignore you when you started dating Kurt."
"Oh," Flint said, not really sure how to reply to this.
"You must think I'm crazy," Thad grumbled, frowning at his feet.
"No...not crazy," Flint said, smiling as he looked up at him in shock. He moved to sit next to Thad on the bench. "So...would you, maybe want to go to Hogsmeade together after break? I mean, I don't think it's a good idea for me to start anything serious right now, I think we can both agree I need to work on myself a little but...I'd like to get to know you a little better. Figure out what's going on in that brilliant brain of yours."
Thad blushed furiously but smiled ever-so-slightly. "O-okay." He looked up at Flint. "I mean, I'm not like...in love with you or anything...don't think I've been pining after you like a stalker or anything I just...I thought you were cute. God, it's so weird saying this." He shook his head a little as if to clear it.
Flint laughed and patted him on the shoulder. "Well, if we're being perfectly honest, you're pretty cute, too, Thad."
Thad laughed nervously and buried his face in his hands in embarrassment.
"I love you."
"Merlin, Blaine, how many times are you going to tell him that?" Jeff muttered as they strode through the oak front doors.
Kurt smiled as Blaine gave him a fond smile and squeezed his hand. It was true. Blaine hadn't stopped repeating the three words every few seconds since they'd started walking back from the Forbidden Forest.
"I'll stop saying it when Kurt doesn't want to hear it," Blaine said with a little smirk.
"Oh, so, never?" Nick said, wrinkling his nose.
