It was like he was experiencing it all for the first time. Every color was more vivid than ever before. Even in his short time without his sight, Kurt was beginning to realize just how much he took something so simple as being able to see for granted.
He was thrilled just to be able to take notes in class, to run up to Jeff and Nick at lunch and cuff them both around the head for being so silly during the past week—which he knew was simply their way of dealing with their worry for him —and to be able to simply look at Blaine, to see the loving look in his eyes that he'd been aching for for a whole week.
Saturday dawn bright and clear and as Blaine did not have Quidditch practice because of his temporary ban—the back-up Keeper would be helping the rest of the team practice while Olivia would be taking over Blaine's duties until he returned—so they went down to the lake with Thad, Flint, Wes, David and Wes' girlfriend, a the seventh year Hufflepuff Head Girl named Charlotte.
The grass seemed so much greener, the sky a shade of blue he'd never seen before. Kurt felt like he was rediscovering the world as he gazed around the grounds, leaning back in Blaine's lap under their tree while the others sat scattered around them.
"Jennifer won't stop complaining about N.E.W.T.s," Charlotte said with an annoyed sigh, sweeping her dark hair back from her eyes. "I'm getting honestly sick of her."
Wes laughed, kissing her check fondly. "Well, not everyone's as smart as you. Honestly, you should have been a Ravenclaw."
"You'd like that, wouldn't you, Wes Montgomery?" she said, smirking. "Any opportunity to attack me with your face."
David fell back into the grass, laughing as Wes scowled at him and Charlotte giggled.
"You're just jealous Janette graduated last year," Wes said to his best friend, who suddenly stopped laughing to pout.
"Aw, Wes, don't be so mean," Charlotte said, elbowing him.
Kurt watched them arguing fondly. He hadn't spent nearly as much time with Wes and David as he had the others in their dorm but, though they weren't nearly as crazy as Jeff and Nick, they were fun to be around.
Thad and Flint were sitting together in the grass on the bank, Thad leaning against Flint's shoulder and Flint's arm resting lightly behind him. They weren't talking, just smiling faintly, occasionally sharing a bashful glance.
"Did we used to act like that?" Kurt said, leaning back to glance at Blaine. "Sickeningly sweet?"
Blaine grinned. "What do you mean used to?" he said, cocking an eyebrow. "According to Jeff and Nick we still do."
"Oh, we're not that bad," Kurt said airily. Because Jeff and Nick over exaggerated absolutely everything. They claimed at least once a week that they were going to die from an overload of 'adorableness' coming off Blaine, Kurt, Thad, and Flint.
"Yea, but everyone knows we're in love," Blaine said, squeezing him fondly. "They haven't even realized it yet."
Kurt stroked his hand where it was resting on his waist. "You think that's what it is?"
"Maybe not yet," Blaine said, glancing over at the two boys. "But I don't think it will be much longer until Thad dies of sheer happiness when Flint tells him he loves him."
"Let's hope they do a better job of it than we did," Kurt said, laughing. They certainly had a complicated past, but they came out of it together, and that was the important thing.
Blaine smiled. "Not a hard thing to do, honestly."
Laughing, Kurt sat up a little straighter so that his head was resting against Blaine's shoulder. "So, have your parents gotten over what happened yet?"
