Arisa pov:

Two days had gone by since Envy had showed up at my house and beat me up. The morning after his attack was brutal – I was in so much pain that I couldn't even get off the bed. I had taken two days off so my body could heal enough for me to move round almost like normal – I still had a lingering pain in most of my body but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle. Besides, crepe bandages and painkillers had helped.

It was amazing that a month had gone by since I became a State Alchemist. Though there wasn't much I had done, I had been rewarded well in the monetary way and in terms of incentives, fame and respect. Most of the people I had met were nice enough though the soldiers were a little annoying. Being the first female State Alchemist had got me more fame than I'd wished for and many often tried to make obvious passes at me.

In fact, one of the colonels who worked in the neighboring office had been a bit too insistent on getting me to date him. Though just twenty one, he had reached a high position in the military because of his constant accomplishments. Though my refusal to date him was clear each and every time, his spirits weren't dampened and constantly tried to convince me that a five year age gap wasn't anything to be worried about. He had even begun to threaten my job.

On that note, I was so glad that Col. Mustang had finally decided to send me to a different city for a mission.

"I'm glad you're finally sending me on a mission," I said to the colonel, standing opposite to him. "What's the mission?"

He appeared bored as always, paperwork scattered over his desk unattended. Lt. Breda had told me that the papers had to be signed and delivered to the superiors in two days. We had done most of the checking to make sure the documents were good to go and all the colonel had to do was sign them. But he was lazy and procrastinating. I was sure that he would end up in a frenzy signing all those papers in the last minute.

"You will be going to a city called Zorotine located down south from here. There have been some clashes between the people and the military and we need to find a way to stop that. I have got information that whoever is overseeing the governance of the city is using the tax money to bribe military personnel for personal gain. There has been a constant water and food problem because of the low money inflow. The military personnel though, claim that they have nothing to do with the city's problems. Something is going on and I need you to find out what it is and figure out the solution for it. I'm sure it's a simple job for you, isn't it?"

He pushed a file on the table towards me and leaned back in his seat with a strange smile. Raising a brow slightly, I picked up the file to go through the details of the mission.

"The mission seems easy enough but I have a feeling that I'm not going to be welcomed by the people of Zorotine," I said, glancing over the less important details of the mission.

"Yeah, you're going to get your butt whooped. You'll probably have to sleep on the streets," Lt. Havoc said. Glancing at him, I noticed that he was still smoking the cigarette he had lit a little while ago and a thin line of smoke rose from it. He had his eyes closed but opened one of them upon feeling my gaze and regarded me with a lopsided grin.

"Well, that makes me feel so much better about this mission," I said with a slightly sarcastic smile. "But I'm sure I can take care of myself."

"That's true," spoke Col. Mustang. "That's the reason why I figured you're the best for this mission. Anyone else I could send would only whine about everything instead of get the job done. Besides, your skills of stealth and gathering intel and assessing situations accurately makes you the best person for this job."
