Arisa pov:
I was speechless, stunned and rendered desperately racking my brain to think of what I had to do now. A million questions went through my mind as my gaze remained unblinking on Krystal.
What was he doing here?
Why was he here and not on the other side of the Gate where he was supposed to be researching chimera?
How did he turn up here?
And what the hell is that somber look in his eyes for?!
I felt a rise in adrenaline, a spike in fear when he turned fully to face me. The grip on my dagger tightened and I raised it higher threatening while shoving Leo protectively behind me. He whimpered as he clutched my legs, sensing the tension in the air.
"What are you doing here?" I hissed through my teeth. I was nervous. Yes, Arisa Lee was nervous. Out of all the people I had fought with in my world and here, he was one opponent I hadn't been able to beat even with alchemy. Scar had been dealt with easily and even the homunculi, when I had become aware of their abilities. I had easily pinned Envy to the ground without suffering a scratch in return. But Krystal was different.
Though he seemed uninterested in fighting now, I didn't dare to let my guard down in the slightest. I watched him intently as he calmly walked across the room, the stolen artifact in hand, and placed it on a table. He proceeded to light the makeshift stove he had in this room and kept some water to boil. He reached for two glasses that had me wondering what he was up to.
"Why don't you sit down? I don't have guests very often – it's nice to have someone to drink tea with. Besides, we do have many things to talk about, don't we?" he said without looking at me. Seeing him so calm made me uneasy.
Without relaxing my stance, I glanced around, mentally cursing at the fact that I had failed to notice that all the chimera in the room in my state of shock and surprise. They had moved to block my exit. This space was too small to fight, I didn't want to hurt the chimera and I knew I didn't really stand a chance against Krystal. Leo too didn't seem to like the fact that we were being surrounded here. He had some pretty unpleasant memories with people and he was trembling.
"I'm glad to see that you've got yourself a chimera friend, a nearly perfect chimera at that," Krystal broke the silence making me gaze at him with narrow eyes at the softness in his tone. "They are such nice companions, aren't they? I don't see why people hate them so much when they're not even like that because they want to. Isn't that right, Arisa?"
I clenched my jaw feeling even more uncomfortable when he called my name. How did he know my name now?
A few minutes passed and he held up the two glasses with tea in them. He walked to the small table that was at the end of the hall and placed it there. He looked at me noticing that I had not let my guard down. He merely smiled at that and said, "I see you're just as guarded as I've heard. Even as Angel and even as the Silver Wing. But you don't have to worry. I'm not an enemy. In fact, you could say that I am a well-wisher."
"Well-wisher? Fancy hearing you call yourself that after you almost killed me and sent me to this crazy place," I sneered.
"I suppose that's how it would seem to anyone, right?" His smile fell and his expression was now a mix of apologetic and seriousness. "However," he continued, closing his eyes, "this isn't the time to be talking about what happened beyond the Gate. What is important is that you know the truth about yourself and me. About your past, your parents and your alchemy."
"What could you possibly know about me?" I retorted, desperately trying to settle the unease that bubbled in the pit of my stomach.
"Much, actually. Why don't you take a seat first, Arisa, unless you want me to make you?" There was a ring of teasing in his voice. He had already begun to sip his tea and I glanced around at the alert chimera once before giving up on attempts to escape. I couldn't escape from Krystal anyway so why make my body go through anything like last time?
