40 - Decisions

Arisa pov:

It was more than a surprise that Oba-san was able to contact me through wireless communication in this world. Glancing up had me notice that there was nothing left of the Philosopher Stone so my wish to speak to her one last time had been granted. Besides, I was in front of the Gate, the border between the two worlds – it had most likely bridged the gap of sorts.

I would never see Oba-san and Keith again – the thought of that made my eyes prickle. But the excitement of being with Envy and all the other people I had become close to was overwhelming.

With a deep inhale, I slid my finger across the screen to answer the call. I hesitated for a moment before bringing it to my ear.

"Hello?" I answered warily but nearly dropped it in startle when I heard Oba-san yell from the other side.

"Oh my gosh, Arisa! Where the heck are you?! I've been trying to contact you since the past six months! Do you know how worried I was after you disappeared in Krystal's mansion?! You've given me so many grey hair! And even Keith wouldn't tell me anything when he got back a month ago! He said he saw you doing fine and didn't give me any details. What's wrong with you?! You idiot! You half-baked useless brat!!"

Her scolding had me chuckle. I was glad that Keith had somehow returned and that he was doing well. A fond smile remaining, I said, "I have to confess that I've missed your yelling, Oba-san, but just as Keith told you, I'm doing fine. I've found the place I really want to be, I want to stay here with the people I've come to care for so I'm giving up my title of Angel. Also, this is probably the last time I'll be able to talk to you. Thank you for taking care of me all this time."

"What are you talking about Arisa? Where on earth are you? Honestly, this poop head isn't bothered to inform me about anything! Don't make me come over there and whack some sense into the useless brain of yours!" she threatened making me give a hearty laugh.

"You should probably ask Keith to tell you sometime – tell him that I want you to know what happened. It's a long story and I doubt you'll believe it the first time. I have to go now, Oba-san. Thanks again for everything and hope all your future missions go well."

I did not receive an answer because the connection was lost after I had spoken. A goofy smile lingered on my face at all the names she had called me and her scolding me for being careless. I was glad that I had got to talk to her one last time. My gaze lingered on the screen of my cellphone for a few moments before I looked to Edward and Alphonse who were watching in surprise.

The Philosopher Stone was spent clean and the black stuff touching me let me go. The Gate closed and finally disappeared from view. The dark stone walls of the tunnel were visible once again and I continued to watch Edward and Alphonse with a smile. I looked down at Leo and ruffled his hair. "It's over Leo. You can open your eyes – you don't have to be scared anymore."

His ears twitched and he opened his eyes to look around and finally at me. He smiled with a light blush wagging his tail gently.

"A-Arisa, t-this is amazing! We spent three years trying to find a way to get our bodies back but now, this is just amazing!" Edward's eyes were still watering in happiness but he wiped the tears off embarrassed.

Oddly enough, tears fell from my eyes too, one of happiness for how everything had turned out in the end despite the dangers, risks and doubts. With Edward's and Alphonse's bodies returned and Envy a human, I knew that things were finally going to settle down now. I stepped to them embraced them with my arms around the necks while letting the tears fall with no restraint. They tensed for a moment but I felt their tears on my shoulders as they hugged me back tightly.
