Arisa pov:

"Colonel, here's the report," I said, placing a bunch of papers on his table. I had just returned from a site under investigation in the city. A skilled robber had been going around stealing jewelry and other expensive items from different stores, leaving not a trace of his identity. This was a tough case to crack but not impossible with my skills.

It would be easy for me to hide in the shadows and lure the criminal with easy bait. However, I was only ordered to make a report on how the mission was progressing because the Fuhrer himself had commanded that I don't strain myself in any way until I was completely healed. There was lingering pain in my body but it wasn't anything I couldn't handle on a mission like this.

"Colonel, can't you just let me take this mission? It's not that hard," I said in a slight complain. "I won't fight the thief but I'll set up a trap so the other soldiers can catch him or her."

"Arisa, first of all, we are not allowed to let you on any mission under the Fuhrer's orders. Secondly, what if it's another homunculus? You've barely recovered over the last two weeks and if a homunculus attacks you again, you will be permanently removed from your duties as a State Alchemist to ensure your safety. You're very skilled and I don't want to lose a soldier like you. Just wait until you're healed. Then you can go back to the dangerous jobs," the Colonel lectured.

Huffing, I put a hand on my hip and said, "Why would the homunculi steal jewelry or all those other stuff listed in the report? They're looking for the Red Water and the Philosopher Stone, not money."

"That may be true, but orders are orders. Since you're done with the report, I have some more paperwork for you." Col. Mustang smiled innocently as he pushed a huge stack of papers on his desk towards me.

My brow twitched in mild irk but I gathered the papers with a deep sigh. There were about 200 documents to check and I had to do it all by myself. Lt. Breda and WO Falman were out on another mission and Lt. Havoc and Lt. Furey were working on paperwork with their stacks even bigger than mine. Lt. Hawkeye was busy getting the colonel to finish another job that he had been putting off since a whole month.

The sight of the colonel cowering next to his first Lieutenant, crying as he scribbled something on some documents, Lt. Havoc with an unlit stub and his hair sticking out in every possible direction while he worked, occasional grunts of annoyance escaping his lips and his hand ruffling his head to make it even more so a bird's nest along with his unusually messy scribbling were funny sights to see. Lt. Furey was sniffling and wibbling, complaining to himself as to how much work the colonel always gave them all the time with no breaks or treats as appreciation.

No offense to anyone, but I sometimes felt like I worked in a circus. With a soft laugh, I reached for the first document I had to check.

Two weeks had gone by since I last saw Envy. He hadn't come to see me once after the unexpected kiss and me yelling at him. In the time he had been gone, I had had several more sleepless nights before coming to the fully-aware conclusion that I did love Envy.

His absence had made me anxious, making me worry that he really thought that I had lied to him and betrayed his trust, so much so that he wouldn't come to see me again. Even when I had left the window of my house wide open as a welcome sign for him, he hadn't turned up. I couldn't count the number of times I had mentally scolded myself for behaving so rashly even though what he had done was uncalled for and startling.

A soft sigh left my lips – I was stressing myself again.

My concentration was not focused on the paperwork, unfortunately, and kept floating to Envy every now and then. My efficiency had declined as a result and I still had several documents left to check. It was nine when I wrapped up for the day, standing up and giving a good stretch to my body. I stacked the papers neatly, placing the ones I had finished on top of the unfinished with a separator in between.
