Chapter 13

Later that night when we got home, I dropped Jackie off at the house next door before driving up to my house. I changed into a pair of jeans and a white lace tank top and a burgundy cardigan.

Seth knocked on the front door before walking in, putting a duffel bag on the floor. I was sitting on a rocking chair, rocking Bailey back and forth.

"Hey, how was shopping?" He asked, taking off his boots and leaving them on the rubber mat.

"Great. Jackie found a lot of things she likes but she wanted to run some of it by Zach first. I bet they'll be heading into town this weekend."

He nodded and sat on the couch beside me, "Are you ready for dinner?" I asked, and he shrugged,

"Yeah, I guess."

"Look, they'll love you. If they don't that doesn't change anything between us. It wouldn't be the first time I dated someone they didn't approve of."

"Is Jackie gonna tell your parents tonight at dinner about her pregnancy?"

"You know?" I asked, looking over at him. He nodded,

"Zach told me today." We sat in silence and I kept rocking Bailey back and forth.

About ten minutes later we walked down to Mom and Dad's house and the big door was open when we got down, Jackie and Zach were already there. Seth held the door for me and then followed me in.

"Charlie! Seth, how nice of you to join us tonight." Dad said, looking up from his glass of wine at the dining room table, and my mom didn't miss a beat, "Hello Seth. Charlie I thought you were bringing your boyfriend to dinner?"

"Mom, Dad, I'd like to introduce you to my boyfriend, Seth."

Dad choked on his wine and Mom almost dropped the plate of chicken breasts.

"Seth is your boyfriend?" Dad asked, clearing this throat.

"Yeah, he is."

Dad looked at Seth before shrugging, going back to his wine. I rose my eyebrow and looked at Seth shrugging. He winked at me before going to check if Mom needed help. Dad looked over at me with a raised eyebrow,

"Charlie? You picked him?"

"Yeah dad. He takes care of us. He likes me and he loves Bailey."

"Well alright... I suppose that's all that matters."

I smiled and went into the kitchen to see Seth washing some of the pots and pans while Mom was holding Bailey, who seemed to be sucking on my moms wrist nonchalantly. I laughed,

"I think she's hungry mom..." She nodded,

"I've got a pot for formula on now, I couldn't find her pacifier."

I went to the diaper bag and got one, giving it to Bailey. Seth finished the dishes and walked over, carefully rubbing Bailey's head.

"Do you mind if I feed her?" He asked my mom. At first I thought it was going to be a show down. But she smiled warmly and once Seth prepared the bottle he sat in the kitchen chair, taking Bailey and holding her like I'd taught him earlier in the week.
