The next week Seth's mother came over for dinner and Seth was extremely nervous. He made dinner while I was at work, I told him I'd worry about the desserts. Bailey came with me so Seth could focus on whatever he had to to take his mind off his mother coming. It was a Tuesday so the bakery would be quiet, Mariah was in the back baking and Hannah had the day off, Susan was going to come in around lunch time to take over for me so I could focus on the books.
Around eleven Seth's mother and grandmother came in and smiled warmly at us. His mother came up to the counter,
"Hi honey, I was wondering if you could join my mother and I for lunch today?" I looked at the time and bit my lip,
"I would love to, but are you on your way now?"
"Oh no, we wouldn't be going out until twelve thirty or one, we're getting some grocery shopping done first." She said smiling and I couldn't help but smile back,
"I would love too. Thank you very much for inviting us."
"Of course sweetie, Seth really loves you and his grandmother and I both agree he couldn't have picked a better woman." I blushed and she grinned, and I realized then how much Seth looked like his Mom. The same grin, the same shade of blue green eyes that made it look like you could see the earth in their eyes, even in some ways the same nose. However I think his ears belonged to his father, whoever that was. Part of me had a feeling that Seth didn't even know who his father was.
"Thank you..."
"Of course sweetie, could we meet up with you outside and go over to the Tim Hortons? My mother loves their sandwiches."
"Yes of course! I'll see you then." Luckily I had Bailey's stroller in the back of the truck, but with getting closer to my due date and trying to start up the new bakery I didn't think I'd be on my feet for much longer. I'd already gained a lot of weight and felt like a whale all the time.
Thankfully it was like Susan felt that I was getting tired and she came in with our work teeshirt and her apron already on, "Hey hon, Seth mentioned this morning you hardly got any sleep last night."
"Yeah these two like to play sports and soccer while I'm trying to sleep."
"I'm sorry Hun. I'll start early if that's okay, you need to sit down and rest." I was about to argue but then I heard my cell phone ring so I sighed and nodded,
"Okay thank you Sue." I took Bailey into my office with me and answered the FaceTime call on my iPad. Aunt Margaret smiled at me,
"Hi sweetie! We wanted to get a head start on painting so it would be aired out by the time y'all come up next week, so we're at the paint store. Did you still want the same paint theme as the bakery in Willowhurst?"
"Yeah, I want to keep them the same. However could we do the baseboards and crown moulding more of a grey then white? White just seems to get too dirty too fast."
"Of course honey. How does this grey look?" She flipped the camera around and I saw a pale grey that would go perfect with the shade of blue and back splash that they had already done.
"It looks perfect Aunt Margaret. Thank you so much for doing this."
She flipped the camera around and grinned, "Of course honey! How are you?"
"Not too bad," I said, getting Bailey out of her seat and sitting her on my lap. She grinned happily and waved when she saw Aunt Margaret on the screen, "Seth's Mom and Grandmother want me to go out for lunch with them."
"Isn't she coming over tonight?"
"Yeah she is which is why I wasn't so sure about going out with them, but I said yes anyways. She's been trying really hard to get back into Seth's life and she's been helping out with some of the baby stuff as well. She's really stepped up... And I just hope he'll realize that."
