“Be careful.” I said watching Devin walk up the stairs, with me following close behind him. I walked up to his room with him and watched him lay down.
“Do you need anything?” I asked.
“Some water please.” He said smiling. I nodded smiling before walking downstairs. The house was empty again. Jess and Mel were at school and Justin is doing some last minute stuff before going back to college. He’s going back up tomorrow. I’m really going to miss him I just miss him living here with us. You know? Yea, well I’ll be with him next year. I walked to the fridge and got out a bottle of water. I was walking upstairs when I heard the doorbell. I turned back around and walked to the door. I opened it and saw Jasmine standing there.
“Oh. Hello.” I said slightly shocked.
“Hey.” She said smiling. I brought her in for a hug.
“I haven’t seen you in such a long time.” I said giving er a squeeze.
“I know right! We’ve barely ever hang out anymore!” She said releasing me.
“I know. We have to change that. Come in! I’ll be right back, I gotta run something up stairs.” I said to here before running up the stairs to Devin’s room.
“Here’s your water. Anything else?” I asked while handing him the water. He shook his head no while taking a sip of the water. I looked up at him.
“Who was at the door?” He asked.
“Jasmine. She’s downstairs.” I said smiling.
“Then go!” He said motioning me to leave.
“Ok, but if you need anything, I’m right downstairs.” I said smiling.
“Yea, I know.” He replied. I smiled at him before exiting the room. I ran downstairs back to Jasmine. She was sitting on the couch. I sat next to her.
“So what are doing here?” I asked smiling.
“What? You don’t want me here?” She asked teasingly.
“Of course I do. I mean…” I started but was cut off.
“I know what you mean silly!” She said. “I’m just visiting to see how you’re doing and how Devin is. We haven’t really talked since your accident and then Devin had his accident and I knew I had to come and see how you were doing.” She said smiling at me.
“Oh. I’m fine I guess.” I said.
“Physically or emotionally?” She asked.
“Physically. The doctor said I’m going to be ok. No serious damage occurred, but he doesn’t know. And just when I started healing from my accident Devin has his.” I said.
“About that. What happened? I heard little bits about it from school, but I wanted to know from the source.” She said grabbing my hand.
“Well we were talking in the woods, alone. Then he got shot. It really came out of nowhere. Next thing I know I’m sitting in a puddle of blood and Devin is bleeding out in my arms.” I said.
“Oh you must’ve been terrified.” She said.
“Yea. I was. It was horrible. I didn’t know what to do. I was completely helpless.” I said with tears forming in my eyes.
“Oh honey!” She said bringing me in for a hug.
“I feel like it’s all my fault.” I said crying into her shoulder.
“It’s not your fault. It will never be your fault.” She said rubbing my back and comforting me. “Come on, we gotta get you out of the house.” She said pulling back.
