- Third person -
A knock was heard on the office door of Maria Kemp's private room. Blowing a puff of the strong smoke into the air and creating a ring, she stabbed the bud of her cigarette into the glass dish before reaching into the lowest drawer of her desk and grasping the powerful air freshener. To a non smoker, the toxic aroma still didn't cover up the deathly smell but to Maria, the cheap spray was a success.
"Come in!" She called, replacing her designer glasses on the bridge of her nose as the timid secretary entered with a nervous gulp.
"I don't mean to be a bother, Ms Kemp." The new employee stammered, interlocking her fingers and standing poker straight. "But there is a Miss Grim awaiting. She says it is urgent and cannot wait book an appointment. Would you like me to send her away?"
Maria shook her head, "Send her in."
The employee bowed her head and hurried from the room. Whilst Maria continued to file new surrogacy papers, slotting them into files and naming them with labels, she heard the door being swung open as an angry model entered. Her sky high Louboutins clicked against the floor as she marched to the desk, slamming the magazine down on the spewed papers and sending some flowing to the floor.
"That is supposed to be me on that cover, do you realize how much money it's cost me because you didn't hurry your ass and get the fucking court case set!" She screeched, jabbing her freshly manicured finger onto the glossy paper.
Maria's glasses fell to the point of her nose as she glanced down at the magazine, pulled fresh from the stand on the corner. The peacefully smiling face of her abandoned daughter taunted her incredulously; Lux was happy and Maria hated that. It was selfish, but so was she.
Then there was the beautiful, innocent little baby girl laying in front of her protective parents and asleep. The bubble of love surrounded the precious child, protecting her from the likes of Maria and Hayley - people who would personally set out to hurt her for strange and unknown reasons.
"Well? When are you going to fix this?" Hayley demanded, pouting her pink coated lips and placing her hands on her bony hips. Maria pushed away the magazine, wanting to see nothing more of her daughter's newfound happiness.
"The case is set for two days time, until then, the situation is out of my hands." Maria's stern voice spoke as she cleared her throat and grasped a ballpoint pen from the holder and twirling it between her fingers. "Now, if you don't mind, I have a client booked for eleven-thirty." she motioned towards the door and scanned her eyes over the printed paper.
Hayley huffed, "Fine but if you do not get Justin and I back to being a family, I will be sure to sue you and your entire company for ruining my chances at being a mother."
"For heaven's sake; you're not infertile, Miss Grim. You are perfectly capable of having a child." Maria fumed, slamming the pen onto the paper. "You should be thanking me that I am not exposing your sham lies to the entire national."
Stomping her foot like a child, Hayley's immature side showed greatly and caused Maria to roll her eyes. As she flicked her dark brown hair over her shoulder, Hayley turned and marched to the door, flinging the door open and causing a few heads to turn from the waiting area just a few feet away. Before the pointed toe of her designer shoes left the room, her body turned.
"By the way, I'm intending to bring it up at the court case that your so-called daughter and my ex-fiance were having an affair behind my back."
"You have no proof of that. We need evidence."
A smirk crawled across those evil bubblegum lips, "Check page six, you might want to rethink that. I'm going to be apart of Justin's life, Maria and whether your stuck-up little daughter likes it or not, that child will be calling me mommy."
