— Justin Bieber —
"Can you believe she's already a month old?" Natasha gushed, her beaming attention focused on her tiny granddaughter who lay on the play mat with her protective uncles and aunt crowding. "And already she's the most fashionable infant I have ever, ever met."
I smiled, grabbing Jaxon's waist and hauling him onto my lap. Their six week stay in New York was slowly coming to an end, and in a few more days they would be traveling back to Canada with dad, grandma and grandpa. They would be back in a few more weeks, but it would drag in just like it always did.
"It only seems like yesterday I was seeing her on the sonogram for the first time." I mumbled, leaning my chin atop of Jaxon's blonde mop. I smiled at her jerking moments and chucked as Bobbie jumped back and narrowly missed his niece's thrashing fist. "Before I know it, she'll be six months and then a year! Babies grow up way too fast, someone needs to invent a slow down button or something because I'll end up blinking and I'll be an old man."
Natasha laughed, "That's what happens when you have kids, love." sipping at her coffee, she sighed. "You just need to treasure every precious little moment."
I nodded. "I will."
"Justin! Look! She's smiling! Scarlett's smiling!" Jazmyn gasped, pointing down at her niece who's cheeky grin overcame her peachy lips. "Uh oh. Bieber, she's getting tired." letting out a yawn, Scarlett's thrashing began to settle and slow to a stop. Setting Jaxon down, I walked between the three kids and carefully scooped up my tired daughter.
"You guys worn her out." I teased, gently resting her small head against my shoulder and fixing her adorable outfit. The "Does anyone have the time?"
"It's twelve-thirty." Dad spoke, checking his rolex watch I bought him as a christmas present. "We should probably start heading over, Mike will probably want to talk to us before we go in."
I nodded, looking down at my world. "You're gonna stay with gramma and grampa while daddy goes and fights the mean ladies who will never come close to you, okay? But he's coming right back with mommy and we're going to be very, very happy after today. No more drama. No more anything — just us three and I promise you that I'm going to do everything in my power to make your life as joy filled and as drama free as possible."
Robert patted my shoulder, sending me a fatherly smile. "She knows, son. Thank you."
As the others shuffled from the living room, mumbling how they would meet us at the cars and the children bundling onto the sofa as grandpa inserted the selected Disney movie, I furrowed my brows at my daughters grandfather, wondering what he was thanking me for. "Thank you? For what? I haven't done anything other than speak the truth."
"For making my daughter happy — for giving me a beautiful granddaughter and for vowing to keep them both safe." He replied, nodding slightly and licking his lips. His hands dug in both his pants pockets as his blue eyes fixated on the small, now asleep child laying against my chest. "I know you will keep your word."
I nodded once, "As long as I live. They'll be safe. I promise."
Robert nodded again, his feet dragging him of to the door and disappearing into the hallway. While I turned towards Lux, who remained stuck in a statue silhouette with her knee bouncing and teeth nibbling at her lower lip in anticipation. Her unblinking glared concentrated on the other side of the room, burning a hole through the hall and she still didn't budge when I stood in front of her. Inches away and I could feel her sheer worry radiate from her smartly dressed body.
"Beautiful." I mumbled, fixing Scarlett into one arm and laying her head in the crook of my arm. I skimmed my knuckles across her defined cheekbone, her skin whipping from my touch as she jumped at the contact. My heart was crushing at the sight of her being so edgy. "It's okay, it's just me — everyone is already away outside. Are you ready to go?"
