"Go on baby, say it again." I coaxed, holding Scarlett as she stood on my bare stomach. She grinned cheekily, her lower and upper set of two teeth poking from her pink gums. Her silky thin mop of gorgeous golden brown hair was clipped to the side by a purple and white, polka-dot bow, her uniquely beautiful eyes gleamed happily as her mouth reopened and the words that made my heart swell, flowed free.
"Da-da, da-da, da-da." She chanted. Grabbing her dainty little hands, I clapped them together and cheer loudly as she erupted into a fit of musical giggles. She fell back on her bum, leaning against my crooked legs as I continued clapping her hands together.
"That's my clever little girl!" I beamed enthusiastically as she grunts and reaches for the for the musical octopus on Lux's pillow. "Say it again princess."
Scarlett whined slightly as I heard Lux's angelic giggle. Wrapped in a mint green towel that stopped mid-thigh, her wet, tousled hair brushed to one side, she leaned against the bathroom door frame and smiled at the scene in front of her. "Are you still trying to get her to say daddy?"
"She's been saying it." I beam.
"She'll stop if you keep pestering her." She laughs, climbing onto the bed and opening the coconut moisturizer. "Won't you baby? Then you'll have daddy in tears again."
"Hey, I wasn't crying; I just happened to get dust in my eye." I defended. She rolls her eyes, seeing right through my lie as she smooth's her hands across her legs and arms. "I rarely get emotional but hearing her call me for the first time, yeah I got a little teary eyed - sue me!"
She smiles, setting the moisturizer on the bedside cabinet before cuddling into my side. She tilted her head and lay a soft peck on my jaw. "Don't worry, I think it's cute. Daddy's cute when he shows his soft side, isn't he Scarlett?" Scarlett gurgled as she pulled at the octopus' tentacles which each played separate rhymes. "See, even Scar' agrees."
I reached down and kissed her forehead. "You should go and get ready, we need too leave soon."
"That reminds me." She huffs, crossing her arms against her chest and narrowing her caramel orbs. "You still haven't told me where we're going. You know I don't like surprises, Justin."
"Then don't think of it as a surprise, think of it as me being spontaneous." I grin. Hauling Scarlett onto my hip as I stood, I pulled on her small, Hello Kitty top and covered her tanned belly; her skin tone obviously being inherited from her mother. "And as much as daddy loves seeing mommy in a towel, she needs to go and change."
"Justin!" She squealed, widening her eyes. "Not in front of her!"
"Like she'll remember." I scoffed. "Now go, and make sure you dress comfortable."
"I don't like when you have plans! It scares me!" She calls as I disappear into the hallway. I grin, hearing her huff from a distance. "Will we ring uncle Scooter, baby? Yeah?"
Scarlett's head raised at his name, a goofy grin beaming across her lips as I carefully sat her inside her spacious playpen and watched as she dropped her octopus toy and scrambled on her knees for another. I chuckled; she had my attention span - short. Fishing my phone from my sweat pocket, I dialled Scooter's number and glanced back down the hallway, thankfully the bedroom door was shut just as he answered.
"What's up J-man?"
"Okay seriously, J-man? Dude, I'm twenty-three now. Not sixteen."
"When you start acting twenty-three and not sixteen, then I'll call you a more mature name." He jokes. "Now, you called for something?"
