"Come on pretty girl, this will make you better." Lux cooing, rubbing the tip of Scarlett's bottle along her pursed lips. She squirmed and whined, refusing to drink the combination of milk and medicine. Lux sighed, setting the bottle on the bedside table and lifting Scarlett over her shoulder, tapping her back and causing her to splutter another painful cough. Fresh from the shower, I entered our bedroom with a towel loosely hanging on my hips and another roughly drying my hair. Lux glanced up, "I think she knows that there's something else mixed in there."
I grabbed fresh underwear from the drawer and slipped them on beneath my towel, dropping it to the floor and sliding into the unmade bed beside Lux. Gently removing Scarlett from her arms, I asked her for the bottle and gently rocked the wheezy breathing child. As I mocked Lux's actions by rubbing the tip of her bottle along Scarlett's thin lip, I softly began singing. "I know it's hard baby, to sleep at night. Don't you worry, 'cause everything's gonna be alright."
Lux wriggled down the bed, laying in the recovery position and watching in amazement as Scarlett caved and started to drink after moments of stubborn declining. Her unique caramel gold eyes stared up making my heart flutter at my perfect creation.
"How do you do it?" Lux murmured, her voice masked with exhaustion from the previous restless night. I glanced down at her makeup free face and smiled, balancing Scarlett and the bottle in one arm and hand, I reached down and brushed the pad of my thumb across her defined cheekbone. "It's like your secret talent, calming her down with just your presence. It's so natural too, like you've done this before."
I chuckled, "I've only done it with Jazmyn and Jaxon. They usually calmed down when I sang and fortunately the tactic worked on Scarlett too."
She smiled sleepily, "Well I'm thankful that it did. That's your job from now on, singing to her when she's being fussy. Even if you're at the studio or in a meeting, I'll be either turning up or ringing you too soothe her."
"That's not a problem." I chuckled. "Daddy doesn't mind. No, he doesn't. He'll happily sing to his precious little girl anytime she wants, okay?" she continued to stare and drink hungrily at the milk, her tiny hand laying atop of mine as I held the bottle.
"What time is it?"
"Nine."
She gasped, "You have a meeting in twenty minutes!"
I shrug, "I cancelled. Scooter's gonna' let everyone know that Scarlett's unwell, he said not too worry and he'll call over later." I paused, "Oh! Which reminds me, is Ruby at hospital today?"
"Yeah, only until two-thirty though. Why?"
"Invite her over to dinner tonight." I grinned. She wrinkled her nose in confusion. "It'll make sense later. Promise. Just make sure she's here before six, yeah?"
She shakes her head and leans to kiss Scarlett's hand before snuggling comfortably into my arm. "Whatever you're up too, I sure hope you know what you're doing."

"What's the special occasion?" I heard Ruby asked as she entered our apartment. I glanced at the kitchen clock, 5:45pm before returning to cooking. "And Justin's cooking? Are you sure this is safe? I do work in a hospital but I'd rather not be a patient in one."
"Love you too, Ruby." I answered to her sarcastic tone. "Babe, why don't you pour you two out a glass of wine and I'll call you when dinner is ready."
Lux crept up behind me, her ballet flats making her footsteps silent until her arms snaked around my chest, hiding under the apron. She inhaled and moaned, "Something smells delicious."
