Chapter 6
I slowly opened my eyes and looked at my arms. They were bandaged and I saw an IV needle giving me fluids. I looked at my hands and saw someone holding it.
I turned my head and Gaara was holding it. He looked up at me and chuckled. “Good morning, love.” He said. I smiled and whispered “Hello”. He smiled softly and leaned over to give me a kiss on the cheek. He hugged me and started shaking.
“I thought I lost you…” He sniffled. I hugged him back and silently let a few tears out. “Hey, I’m still here, love.” I said softly while stroking his back. He nodded and pulled back. He wiped his tears and gave me a kiss on the lips. I kissed back and wrapped my arms around his neck. He pressed harder and I fell back against the bed. He pulled back slightly panting. “We should stop. That nurse could be back any moment.” He said. I nodded and sighed. Gaara let go of my hand as soon as we heard footsteps coming closer to the room. “So, just to make thing clear, I’m in the hospital?” I asked. He nodded and the door opened.
A nurse was there with my records on a clipboard and Baki-sensei right next to her. “Hello Hiragana-san. You will be able to leave the hospital in 2 hours, but you need to speak as little as possible for at least a week. I’ll be back later to check in on you.” She said and left.
Baki-sensei closed the door after the nurse walked out and crossed his arms. “I’m very disappointed in you. You were amongst the best of all of Suna’s graduate kunoichi and a rouge ninja was able to sneak by you and almost kill you at the same time. Being a genin is no excuse for almost getting killed. If you want to succeed, then you must be willing to put your life on the line. If you have another mistake like that again, you will be sent back to the academy. Do not test my patience.” He said slamming the door shut.
I sat up and brought my knees to my chest. I let tears slip past my eyes as realization hit me. ‘I’m among the best of the graduating kunoichi and I nearly got myself killed for being careless…’ I thought. ‘What would Mizurei had said if she was told that, wait never mind. She wouldn’t have said anything because the person who would’ve told her that would be unconscious on the floor.
I felt Gaara’s arms wrap around me and hold me close to him. We didn’t say anything, but we just sat together in each other’s arms. It’s as close as comfort as anyone can get when you’re me.
*A Few Hours Later*
I was released from the hospital and walked with Gaara by my side. He and I shared an awkward silence as we passed through the empty town. By now it was around 8:00 and people were already in their homes, the only exception being the occasional Nin on guard duty.
We approached the steps of my apartment and I fished out the keys out of my bag. I unlocked the door and let Gaara inside. I closed the door, locked it and put the keys on the counter.
I sat on the couch next to Gaara and dropped my bag on the floor lazily. “Eh, I’ll pick it up later.” I said hoarsely. Gaara shook his head. “You sound like Kankuro. He says he’ll pick it up and he forgets until someone trips over it; the most recent case being Temari.” He said looking at me sternly.
“Fine.” I said picking up the backpack and putting it in my closet. I walked back and sat on the couch. I leaned against Gaara and got the TV remote. I turned it on and saw the most awesome show ever created in the history of mankind. It was Avatar: The Last Airbender.
It was “The Ember Island Players” episode and it was the part where it was the intermission and a random kid walks up to Zuko and says “Hey, your costume’s pretty good, but your scar’s on the wrong side” and runs off. Then Zuko shouted “The Scar is NOT on the wrong side!” and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Gaara was smirking but not laughing. “What does it take to make you laugh?” I asked. He shrugged. “I honestly don’t know.” He said. Then it was the scene where Toph was like “I sound like a guy.” when the actor went on stage. I started laughing again and Gaara chuckled slightly.
“Finally! It took Toph to make you laugh.” I said smiling. He smiled a little and nodded a bit. We finished watching the episode smiling and laughing until the end where Fire lord Ozai gave like a huge emotional speech and I said in a hoarse voice: “Yo dude with the heavy load of make-up, get off the stage.” And the episode ended.
“Well, I’m going to sleep now.” I said. “Can I stay over for tonight?” Gaara asked. “Sure.” I said getting off the couch. “I have a few extra clothes in my bag. I’ll change in the bathroom.” He said walking in there.
‘Um...okay? He’s such a troublesome boyfriend.’ I thought and changed into my batman pajamas.
I heard knocking on the door and I said come in. my eyes widened and I squealed in awe. He was wearing the cutest Pikachu pajamas in history!
“You’re so cute!” I squealed hugging him. He stared at me dumbfounded and hugged back awkwardly. I yawned like a lion. “Sorry. I’m just tired.” I said.
He nodded and sat on the bed with me. I put the cover over us and he wrapped his arms around my waist and pulled me closer to him, so that my back was pressed against his chest.
“Goodnight, Miyuki.” He whispered in my ear.
“Goodnight, Gaara.” I whispered back. I then let sleep take over me.
