Chapter 19
We pulled apart and gazed into each other’s eyes.
“I love you.” Gaara whispered not wanting to ruin the moment.
“I love you too.” I whispered back. I gently lifted my head and pecked his lips softly.
He held me in his arms and I leaned against his chest. He twirled my hair that ended in curls. He twirled a strand of hair around his finger to occupy himself.
His other hand was lying on my stomach. I was taking a few pictures of the lake and mountain terrain. I looked around the lake and saw the river led somewhere.
“Gaara?” I asked.
“Hm?” He said.
“Do you want to follow that river?” I asked. He looked at me with a curious look.
“Why do you want to follow the river?” He asked letting the strand of my hair he was twirling slip from his hand.
“It looks familiar.” I said with my trailing off. I stood up and put my camera in my bag. “Let’s go.” I said looking at him.
He nodded and stood up along with me. He held my hand and we both followed the current of the river.
“Um, Gaara?” I asked looking up at him.
“Yes?” He replied.
“How did you know where I was?” I asked.
“Hinata told me the direction you were headed because she saw you walk towards the forest when she was training with her squad.” He said.
“I see…” I replied. ‘Maybe it’s a good thing he found me. I was feeling depressed…’ I thought.
We saw that the trees were becoming scarce and were being replaced with rocks and boulders. I finally, saw where the river ended: at Final Valley…
“Wow! This is even more amazing than that painting!” I exclaimed.
We were on the side with the First Hokage. On the other side was the infamous Madara Uchiha.
Gaara chuckled and ruffled my head. He stood behind me and wrapped his arms from behind my waist.
“I told you we would come here one day, right?” He said putting his chin on my shoulder.
“I guess you’re right, because here we are. It’s so beautiful…” I said.
“Not as beautiful as you…” He replied.
“I’m not beautiful, what are you talking about?” I said turning around to face him.
“Stop being modest. You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes upon.” He said lifting my chin up.
“I doubt it. There are prettier women out there besides me. No guy besides you has ever noticed me. I’m a hideous wilting cactus.” I said.
“No…you’re a rare and beautiful rose that nobody has noticed because you’ve been protected by a knight that will do anything to keep thieves from snatching you away.” He said.
“Nice metaphors.” I said smiling.
“I try.” He chuckled and moved forward to kiss my lips.
All I could hear was the sound of the huge waterfall next to us. It never crossed my mind that this beautiful sight would eventually be the scene of a horrific battle of the ages.
