Chapter 23

She moved out towards the side and started punching but I blocked every one of her moves.

I punched her stomach and she stumbled back a few steps. I hit her a few times in the shoulders and I sweep kicked her off her feet.

In a flash, I sat on her stomach and straddled her. I pinned both of her hands above her head and pulled out my katana with the other.

I pointed it at the base of her throat and her eyes widened in fear. I bursted out in laughter as I sheathed my katana again.

“You should’ve seen the look on your face!” I said getting off of her.

“W-what?” She stuttered.

I offered her a hand and she accepted it. I wiped away a few tears and cleared my throat.

“Hinata, the thing is that I could’ve killed you if I wanted to. You experienced that first hand. You really need to strengthen your Taijutsu because that’s the pride of your family…and mine.” I said.

“What? What are you trying to say?” She asked.

“Well, it’s pretty difficult to explain but I’ll try the best way I can. I’m basically like your long-lost cousin.” I said scratching the back of my head.

“I don’t understand. You don’t look like a Hyuuga.” She said.

“Well, here’s the thing. My great-grandmother was a Hyuuga from the branch side of the family. She married my great-grandfather and they had 3 children. 2 had the features of a Hyuuga but one didn’t. The two that had the characteristics died in action before they had the chance to have any offspring. The one child that wasn’t killed had the characteristics of the Hiragana Clan: crystal blue eyes, black hair and pale skin. So when my father was born, he had the same characteristics I have.” I said.

She nodded in understanding.

“So, in other words you’re of Hyuuga descent?” She asked.

“That’s exactly correct. I’m like a half-cousin of sorts.” I said.

“Welcome to the family!” She said hugging me.

“I feel so loved!” I said jokingly. I saw Gaara chuckle from a distance.

“Hinata, I have decided that you’re now my Taijutsu student!” I said happily.

She looked up at me with confusion. “What?” She asked.

“From this day forth, until the Chunin Exams, I’m going to help you with your Taijutsu!” I said putting an arm over her shoulders.

“U-um, okay.” She said nervously.

“We’ll start now!” I said.

“Okay.” She said.

*Time Skip*

It was around 7:30 when we decided to stop training and Gaara had recovered from my jutsu. I waved my half-cousin goodbye and walked back to the apartment hand-in-hand with my boyfriend.

People gave us an occasional glance as we walked by but we didn’t care.

“You know, I like it here. The weather’s nice and it’s always cool here. We don’t have to hide from anyone and people don’t discriminate us for liking each other.” I said.

“That’s true, but you know we can’t just leave. We’ll be considered rogue ninja once we step out of Suna grounds without permission.” He said.

“I know.” I said. “It was just a thought.” I said.

“I see. Although being together in a place where no one will look down on us sounds nice.” He said letting go of my hand and putting his on my hip in a side-ways hug.

I put my hand on his hip and we continue our walk back to the apartment.
