Chapter 8;
Demons hour? What does that mean? Tons more like him? Soul eater? Layne had some serious explaining to do. I paced back and forth in front of him as he sat on the couch, calmly watching tv.
"Would you sit the hell down? I'm trying to watch some thing," he muttered, trying to wave me off.
I whirled around to face him, and stomped my foot. "What does all of this mean?! Demon hour? Tons more like him? Soul eater? I wanna know what just happened, Layne!"
He grabbed the remote, turned the tv off, and stared at me. "From 3 to 4 is demon hour. You should know that at 3 in the morning, all the demons come out and eat whatever they can. Which is why it isn't safe. Yes, there are tons more like him. But he's not the only kind of species of demon out there. He is a soul eater. That's his kind. He seduces his victim, and then takes their soul. I don't know how, and I don't want to fucking know. All I do know is that demons are pathetic, and don't need to be on this earth-"
"I bet they think the same way about vampires..."
He growled at me as I cut him off. I smiled and stayed quiet.
"As I was saying, princess... Stay away from them. They're bad news, and will kill you at any moment,"
"Then why didn't Austin kill me when he had the chance?"
"Probably saving you for later," he said nonchalantly.
I grunted and started heading towards the back door. He was in front of me in a flash, as he hissed at me. I tried to shove him away, but he wouldn't move. He glared at me with such intensity in his eyes. They were slits again, and it scared me.
"Let me out!" I murmured, placing my hand on the knob.
"Didn't you just hear what I said?! Obviously not because you're still trying to leave,"
"I did hear, but I'm ignoring it. I don't want to be here when you're treating me like shit. Let me go home. They won't see me if I sneak out the back door..."
"They will. They sense anything living once it steps outside. You're safe here. They won't dare come near a vampires house,"
"Why do you want me to stay here so much? Do you love me or something? What is your obsession?"
That seemed to hit a nerve. His eyes became soft again, but this time, he looked sad. All of his hard features became relaxed, and I saw the kid within Layne. But that didn't last long. He became that hard headed boy again.
"I'm just trying to protect you from what your family cannot. Just please... Trust me,"
I looked into his eyes again, and they were slits... Again. Why did they do that? I let go of the knob, and surrendered. Layne let out a sigh, and started guiding me towards the living room again. I didn't care. I just wanted to go home.
Layne sat down in front of me, and took my hands in his. His touch felt cold, but his hands were soft. "Do you trust me?"
"How can I trust you when I don't know anything about you?"
"Cadence, right now isn't the time for that. Now, please tell me. Do you trust me?"
I hesitated before I answered. How can I trust him? After all that he has done? I know nothing about him. "Yes...."
He smiled slightly, and let go of my hands. He went to the back to get me something to drink and I took this opportunity to look around and try to find something about his past.
His living room had tons of photo frames all around it. The first picture I saw was of one of his family. His mother and father were quite beautiful too, and I didn't even think that was possible. They looked like the uptight, rich kind of people. Then I saw little Layne. His hair was the same as always, platinum, long, and it looked fluffy. His eyes were still that piercing green color and they stuck out most.
