Chapter 30;
*Cadences POV*
"C-c-Clark?" my breath was shaky and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The ghost smiled at me but something about its smile was odd and it seemed off. I didn't like it. I shook my head angrily, and kept my eyes shut.
I didn't open them until I thought the figure was gone. I slowly opened one eye and to my relief, the ghost was gone. I sighed, and turned around to head back to my room. I got there hurriedly.
I even locked my door with shaky hands, and slid down my door, hitting my head against the hard wood. I felt the tears coming back, and I didn't want them to. I couldn't have seen Clark. Clark is dead. Wasn't he? Layne killed him. I know this because Laynes shirt was covered in blood and his was hurt...
I opened my eyes again, and I felt a cold chill go down my spine. I felt like someone was in the room with me and it scared the shit out of me. I slowly stood up, grabbing the wooden stake I had on my dresser. I gripped it so hard that I could've dented it...
I searched the entire room, but absolutely no one was here. Maybe I'm just losing my mind. Things haven't been that great for me and I haven't gotten much sleep.
I threw the stake where my dirty clothes pile is, took off my pants, and slid into my bed, weary of what might happen next.
I tried closing my eyes, but I heard that damn voice again. I'm not crazy or schizophrenic... My eyes snapped open and I saw Clark laying next to me. I screamed and fell out of my bed. I quickly grabbed the stake from the end of the bed, and held it up in self defense.
Clark laughed. "And what do you think you're gonna do with that?" he asked.
I looked at the stake and gripped it harder, not letting my guard down. "I will kill you with it!"
He chuckled. "You won't kill me. You don't have the nerve,"
He was treading deep waters. "I thought you were dead... I saw the blood on Laynes shirt.."
"I am dead... Well, not necessarily.. I'm still here but I'm not.. It's hard to explain. I don't know whats happening to me,"
"Explain," I snapped, wanting him out of my room.
"Put the stake down first. You will hurt yourself," he sat up and crossed his legs.
I shook my head, not wanting to give in. He sighed and gestured for me to come on the bed with him. I refused and stayed where I was. I didn't trust him.
"Okay... Well... It all started when Layne came to come and 'try' to kill me... Little did I know that he was actually successful..."
*Clarks Flashback and POV*
"I'm protecting my house once and for all..." Layne muttered under his breath, "I'm sorry,"
I shimmered back down into my wolf form, not frightened of him. I didn't believe Layne would actually kill me. He was my friend.
"Layne, why are you doing this?"
He hissed at the name and his eyes were slits. His hair was blowing back from the howling wind and his white t-shirt blowed against his lean body. I saw his arms tense and his face became enraged.
"My house is no longer going to be protected if I do not kill you! Don't you see?! I'm in danger! Juliet is in danger! Labiba is in danger! Everyone is in danger! Especially... Cadence... I can't have my home get brought down by demons, Clark... I'm sorry.."
"But why?"
"Because this damn witch told me to!" he yelled and I could hear the agony in his voice. It felt painful.
"You're going to listen to this witch? You can't trust witches!"
"I can't trust my own friend either, but difference does that make?"
That hurt. I felt that like a knife cutting into my chest, and ripping out all of my organs.
"Lucifer, listen to me... We can find another way... We can find our own protection-"
"How the hell do you suppose we do that, Clark?! I'm pissed the fuck off and I'm hurt because I don't want to kill you, and it pains me to do this, but I have to... I have no other way of protecting my house! I won't be safe anywhere if I don't do this.."
Layne started getting closer and closer to me, but I did not move. If he was going to do it, so be it. It was best for me to die. Soon, Layne was at my throat, holding me up with only one hand. I grabbed at his grip, and I soon lost touch with my best friend.
Defensive mode kicked in and I started struggling in his hands. Layne chuckled evilly to himself, and gripped harder on my throat. He brought me to his face, looking me dead in the eyes with those piercing green slit eyes, and he muttered,
"Maybe it's best for all of us if you just die,"
Now that wasn't Layne. That was just pure vampire. I started pushing against his body, but somehow, he was too strong. He was blood thirsty, and I don't think I could kill him.
I felt his teeth slit my throat, and I automatically started scratching at him and tried pushing away from him as I bled to death. I must've got him pretty hard because he dropped me and was gone.
I laid there, gasping for air, bleeding out and it actually came true. My worst nightmare came true. My best friend killed me.
*End of Clark's Flashback & POV*
*Cadences POV*
I was in tears, and I was pretty much sobbing in Clark's arms. He was comforting me as best as he could but it didn't really help. Clark looked down at me, and lifted my chin up.
"But hey," he chuckled. "I'm still here aren't I?"
"How...?"
He stopped and he pursed his lips. He seemed to be thinking hard. He shook his head.
"I don't really remember what happened after that. I just know that I woke up, and I felt lighter and I didn't feel the pressure I once had.. I could disappear, I could float... It's odd.."
"You're a ghost... Like Juliet and Adrian..."
He nods his head. He grabbed my chin, and leaned in closely to my ear. His cold breath sent shivers down my spine.
"You must not tell anyone that I'm here okay? Not even Layne... I'm not sure how he could handle it,"
