Chapter 24;

*Austins POV*

I could hear the horrifying screams of my slaves as we clawed at the vampires household. We couldn't seem to break in. Only because some witch decided to put a spell barrier around the house to make it demon proof.

Damn.

I glanced over at one of the demons who kept looking into the window of the house. I hissed at him, and he slowly backed off. The rest of the demons formed a circle around me, eyeing me as they made remarks.

"Lucifer!" hissed Tristan. "You need to figure out a plan before I rip some of these morons heads off,"

"Quiet you!" I growled. Tristan was one of the upperclass demons. He wasn't of my kind, but he wasn't as powerful as I. "Don't you think I'm trying?"

The demons looked at each other, and Tristan smirked. "Here's an idea. Have you ever thought of going to the witch and demanding her to break the spell?"

"Are you stupid? That damn witch won't help us. She's on their side. Besides, she's dead and has been for over 200 years," I crossed my arms.

"Then maybe another witch can break it," he growled at me, and his eyes turned completely black.

"Yeah? And what witch do you think is gonna help a demon?!"

"You're quite stupid. We can use force. Kill her even,"

"I'm done with you," I waved him off, and that seemed to piss him off. He was in front of me in an instance. His glare met my eyes, but I wasn't scared by him.

"Don't you walk away from me! I am the only one coming up with ideas, and you're being an idiot," he yelled in my face.

I shoved his face away from me, wiped off the dust on my clothes, and looked at the other demons. They haven't said anything since we started. None of them will. They have no right to speak. I smiled evilly at all of them, and crossed my arms.

"Anyone else want to state their opinions?" I asked. None of them answered. "Perfect... But Tristan is on to something. If we want to get into the vampires house, we have to do it by forcing a witch to undo this wretched spell,"

They all started laughing evilly, and agreed with my idea. They were all gone within seconds to find the witch.

I might actually win this once and for all.

*Cadences POV*

I peeked behind the curtains of the window, and began to worry. I didn't see the demons anywhere in sight. This didn't seem right to me. I directed my attention towards Layne, frowning.

He had a solemn look on his face. His eyes were vacant and full of nothing. He had his hands laced together on the table, and he wasn't looking back at me. He was only staring at the table in front of him.

I walked over to him, placing my hand on his shoulder. He still didn't look up. He didn't even move. I kissed his head, and wrapped my arms around him. I whispered in his ear.

"You have nothing to worry about," I say. "Everything will be fine,"

He turned his head a little, and sighed. "I'm worried about you,"

"I know," I kissed his cheek. "I know,"

"Just promise me something,"

"Anything,"

"Promise me you won't do anything reckless and get hurt?"

"I promise..."

"I'm serious,"

I messed with his hair, and let go of him. "I am too,"

I couldn't promise him any of that, but I really didn't want to fight with him about it. I wanted to help Layne, and I was conjuring up a plan to do so.

I would risk my life to save Layne.

Actually.

I would risk my life to save all of them.

Authors Note; sorry that I haven't been updating. I've been real busy with marching band, and I'm talking to this really cute guy(; anyway, sorry it's short! I hope you like it.
