Chapter 13;

"We need to come up with a plan, and we need to do it now," Layne muttered to Labiba. Labiba was sitting in the arm chair with her legs crossed, as she watched Layne pace in front of her.

"Calm down. We will figure something out," Labiba said in an impatient voice. "And would you stop pacing? You're annoying me,"

Layne glared at her and waved her off. "You need to watch over Cadence's family, but I don't know how you're going to do that through demon hour..."

"You honestly think I'm scared of demons?" Labiba chuckled. "Please,"

"Unless you want to end up dead, I would be afraid,"

Labiba eyes became slits as she grew angry. "I can handle myself,"

"Yeah, when you're in hell,"

"Shut the hell up. If I can't do it, then we need to figure out who else will,"

"Maybe another vampire?" Layne suggested.

Labiba shook her head. "We can't risk another vampire we don't know to watch over a human family. Also, we're not gonna risk a vampire getting killed,"

Layne grunted and clenched his fists. "Then you think of something, bitch,"

Labiba thought about it for a while, and her face became content as she thought. She stared at me while she did and I didn't think she was ever going to blink. Labiba's eyes soon shown life, and she whipped out her cell phone. She dialed a number, spoke really fast, and then hung up all in 20 seconds. She put her phone back in her pocket, and smiled up at Layne.

"Done," She smirked.

"Who the hell did you call?"

There was soon a knock at the door and Labiba went over to answer it. We didn't see who it was until the person came into our view. It was a boy who look deathly pale... Didn't even look alive, he looked almost see through. He had light scruffy brown hair, light freckles that covered along his nose and under his green eyes. His body was built like a swimmers body and he was fairly tall. But one thing about him caught my eye...

He wasn't even touching the ground.

He was 3 inches off of the ground and it creeped me out. Surely he wasn't a vampire... Maybe he was some type of demon? But this house was demon proof, so what is he?

The person smiled at me and waved. Laynes face was serious as I waved back. He didn't seemed amused. Labiba smiled at Layne and let the boy come in farther.

"Layne, this is Adrian. He's a ghost, and my partner," Labiba introduced Adrian, and Adrian seemed timid.

"Nice to meet you," Adrian's voice was quiet, and kinda deep. It was cute, honestly. It matched him perfectly.

"A ghost? What the hell do you think a ghost can be used for?! He can't do shit!" Layne murmured, brushing off Adrian.

Labiba's face grew angry. "Don't be a fucking asshole. He's here to help since you know, demons can't touch him! He can protect her family!"

"Demons will laugh at him! He can't protect her family! They will walk right past him and not give him the time of day!"

"You obviously underestimate the power of the dead, don't you?"

"What do you mean?"

Labiba chuckled. "I wouldn't have given him the time of day myself if I didn't think he was worth anything. I met him on my way to find you, something happened, an we've been partners ever since,"

Adrian came over to where I was sitting and sat down next to me. All I could feel coming off of him was cold air... Like how it feels when you open a freezer. Adrian smiled at me, and it looked like a sad smile. He didn't even look real. I felt kinda bad for him.

"You're really pretty," Adrian complimented in a quiet voice.

I smiled back at him. "Thanks. You're really... Dead looking!" I joked.

Adrian chuckled and his face became sad again but he tried to hide it. "You look like you became a vampires snack," he countered.

"Touché,"

Layne and Labiba continued to argue about Adrian, and it was starting to get annoying. They butt heads too much. Adrian took this opportunity to get to know me more.

"Demons huh?" he questioned.

"Yeah, I accidentally got involved with one..."

He raised an eyebrow at me. "Which one?"

"Austin.."

"Satans sidekick?"

"How did you know?"

"Us ghost know everything there is to know about demons. We used to be partners with them way back then, and they started treating us like servants, so we just left,"

"How many more are there?"

"There's tons of ghosts. We just hide so demons don't take us. Hell is not a place you want to be,"

"I see,"

"I can tell he left his mark on you,"

"How did you know?"

"You give off bad vibes,"

Wow. I didn't really know him and he was already insulting me. I crossed m arms and didn't look his way. Adrian sensed that and put his hand on my arm. It was cold, and I could barely feel it.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it like that,"

"It's whatever. But yes, Austin I guess did leave his mark on me,"

"I won't let you or your family down, Cadence,"

"How did you know my name?"

"They're saying it a lot over there," he pointed his finger over to where Layne and Labiba were. "So, you and Layne, huh? I guess that's cool. Ghosts are better though," he winked playfully at me.

I blushed. "No! Layne and I are not together, but I have a feeling he likes me,"

"I'm sensing that off of him too,"

"You're creepy,"

"Says you,"

Layne came over to where we were sitting and eyed Adrian. He grabbed my hand, pulled me off of the couch, and started dragging me upstairs. I waved goodbye to Adrian, and was soon greeted with Laynes face.

He didn't look too happy, and I was scared of what he was going to say or do.

"I don't trust either one of them," He whispered loudly, standing in the hallway next to his bedroom door.

"Adrian seems nice," I remarked.

"I wouldn't trust ghosts if I were you... I would watch out,"

"Whatever you say, Layne,"

He rolled his eyes. "I'm serious. I'm only doing this to keep you and your family safe,"

"Why should I trust you?"

Laynes eyes became slits. He clenched his teeth together, and his fangs started coming out. I really pissed him off.

"Cause I'm the one standing in between you, and death... Now I would shut the fuck up, and listen to what I'm telling you,"

I nodded and decided to keep my mouth shut. It was the best thing for me. Layne was right. He always is.

Authors Note; so I wrote the first part of the sequel to Afraid to Love! And I was thinking that if I got 60 votes on it, I would update The Neighbors Son!(: I also need one more ghost character!
