Chapter 27:
*Cadences POV*
Austin was in his human form but something about his appearance seemed a little off... His skin was paler and it seemed like his skin was slightly melting. His eyes were half black and half red, and his voice was more demonic then before.
What the hell happened?
Austin circled around us and I could feel Laynes chest rumble from the growls he was producing as he pulled me in to his chest. I looked around for our friends but they were gone. It was just Layne, Austin, and I...
"Well, well, well..." Austin tightened the circle, which made Layne tense up. "Look at what we have here... A defenseless vampire and a mortal," Austin smelt the air, and his eyes bulged out at the scent.
"You look like you just got mauled by a bear," I commented. Layne tightened his grip on me to the point where it hurt. He looked down at me with a serious glance and shook his head.
Austin laughed. "I'm caught in between my human and my demon form, if you must know," his voice rattled the trees and even the house around us.
The wind blew rapidly and the sky started getting dark. I could tell it was about to thunder storm. I just wanted to get inside where it was safe. Why wasn't Layne doing anything?!
"Why don't you just get lost?" Layne mumbled, but his voice was deadly, and cold.
"What fun would that be?"
"I'm serious Austin. Get out of here before I end up doing something I regret,"
"Go ahead," Austin opened his arms wide and left himself vulnerable. I could feel Layne leaving my grip but I held on to him. "I'm all yours," Austin's voice got lower as he chuckled the night away. Austin honestly sounded like The Joker when he laughed.
Layne left my grip and walked up to Austin. He grabbed Austin's throat, and picked him up. Layne eyed him the entire time, tightening his grip more and more. Austin didn't do a single thing. Which was odd.
Austin didn't even struggle. He just let Layne have him. Austin closed his eyes, and sagged in Laynes hand. Layne threw him on the ground and came back towards me.
"You're not worth my time," Layne grabbed my hand, and started pulling me towards the house.
"You're a coward. Just like the rest of your people," Austin laughed as he picked himself up. "A spineless cow-"
Austin couldn't even finish his sentence. Layne was over to him in less than a second and had him by the throat again. "I was going to let you go, but it seems like plans have changed," Laynes eyes turned to slits.
"Ooohhh. Someone is getting a little feisty. I like it," Austin grabbed Layne by his arm and threw him against a tree that was 10 feet away. I flinched as I watched in horror.
Austin chuckled, walking over to where Layne was trying to regain the air he just lost. The demon picked him up by the hair, almost to the point where he yanked it out. I could see the blood coming down from Laynes head as Austin kicked him several times. Layne just laid there, and I didn't know why. Was he dead?
Once Austin was done with him, he threw down again, and then was immediately at my side. He grabbed my wrist, caressing it softly against his face. He smelt it and his mouth began to water. I tried to yank it from him, but it was no use.
"You smell even more delightful than before, my love," He licked my wrist, and I felt disgusted. Austin than began to sink his teeth into my wrist, and it was the most horrible pain you could imagine. His bite felt different from a vampires. I could feel his venom in my veins and I could feel apart of me leaving. I began to sink in his grip, but he caught me.
He chuckled. "Don't worry. It will be over soon and you'll be dead,"
After that, I blacked out.
-
I could hear the sound of raining pounding the roof above me as I came to. I had a horrible migraine and my whole body hurt. Surely, this could not be heaven because I wouldn't be in pain... Where's all the angels and the clouds? I looked around the room once I got my eyes opened and the first thing I was greeted with was Laynes face.
It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. His face was better than a angels. His face was pained though, and his eyes were slits. I could tell he was pissed, but something else I noticed was that he was all bloody and he was gripping his arm.
I sat up slowly, trying to regain what all I had left. I looked at Layne the entire time, not wanting to take my eyes off of him.
"Cadence..." his voice whispered. "I am so sorry I didn't there sooner... You wouldn't be in this condition if it weren't for me,"
"I'm fine... But you... You on the other hand don't look anywhere near fine. What happened?"
"Doesn't matter. Austin won't be bothering us any longer,"
"Is he..." I acted like I was slitting my neck, and he nodded. I was relieved.. I was so happy Austin was gone.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"I don't know," he voice seemed to get lost in the words, and I could tell he was thinking about something. I placed my hand on his arm, and he didn't even notice.
"Layne, what's wrong?"
He shook his head. "Nothing,"
"Don't lie,"
He looked up at me. "We can't celebrate yet. There's still one more I have to kill to keep this house protected forever,"
"Clark..."
Layne nodded, his face twisting up in pure agony. He got up, still gripping his arm, and started heading towards the door.
"Why are you holding your arm so much?" I asked.
Layne looked down at it, and shook his head. "I'll be fine," then he left the room.
