The baby blue fluid went flying from the tip of my paintbrush to land in a solid splatter across Colt’s left cheek. It was shortly followed by a flick from his own paintbrush which I easily dodged and heard the low growl coming from behind me telling that it’d landed on Greg instead. I quickly ducked back down again knowing full well that Greg was going to retaliate as fast as he could. It was great being able to know things before they happened as a large amount of paint went flying over my head and all over Colt. His whole body froze into a rigid stance as his mind took a few moments to fully comprehend what had just happened.
“Oh… you are so dead.” Colt hissed between his teeth, if the look on his face wasn’t saying how much he was going to enjoy this, I’d seriously think that he was royally pissed.
A laugh almost escaped my mouth as I quickly got out of the way to a safe distance and watched as their paint fight ensued, the very same one that I’d initiated in the first place. A wide smirk spread across my lips as I watched as they both became covered with the baby blue paint we’d been painting the living room with. Sure the mess was going to be a pain to clean up, but it was so worth it to be able to watch them having fun and letting go of their “I’m so serious” personalities. It wasn’t every day that something happened that allowed them to let down their guards and actually have fun. Let alone when they were technically still mad at each other.
It’d only been a couple of hours since Greg’s callous words had gotten under Colt’s skin and brought out his protectiveness of me. The fact that in this moment they seemed to have forgotten all about that brought a bigger smile to my face. Of course the remnants of the pain that Greg’s words had caused me to feel were still there, floating just below the surface, but despite that I was still able to enjoy the show that was happening from my own instigation.
I was trying my best to keep from allowing my laughter to escape. I really didn’t want to draw their attention to the fact that I was watching as all of this took place and remind them that it had been me who’d started it. I, so far, only had a few spots of the paint on my hands from actually painting that walls and I really didn’t want to wear any more than that.
It truly was funny to watch as both boys slowly became bluer than anything else and I was immensely thankful that I had more than one bathroom in the house for showers afterward. Although I could see the mess this room was in, I was hoping that I would be able to contain it to this single room of the house for the most part. I had the sneaking suspicion that I was going to have to replace almost all the furniture in this room by the time this was over as it was. I mean how exactly do you manage to get paint out of a fabric couch that had been neglected to be covered before this began. That’s what happens when teenagers paint unsupervised I guess.
If my aunt were home she’d be furious to walk in and witness this going on in her house. This wasn’t the first time that I was finding it slightly odd that Aunt Sally wasn’t here. I mean, it was slightly odd that she’d started dating someone that she’d never once introduced me to. In fact, once we got to this town she seemed to suddenly make herself as scarce as possible and I truly didn’t know why. I mean, leaving me a note that she was taking a vacation, rather than to actually sit down and do the parental thing of talking to me, like she was accustomed to doing, was strange. If that woman didn’t come home soon, or at the very least phone, I was going to begin to worry about her.
She had to be somewhere close by though, within the barriers to this town. She knew that she couldn’t leave this place without being hunted down by those vile creatures stalking the other side. Like with me, they had her scent stored to their memories and would jump at the first opportunity to use her as bait to lure me out of here. I was sure that she wouldn’t be stupid enough to present them with that kind of opportunity.
