"You should've accepted it instantly." Liam practically shouted at me causing me to groan and look down at the ice cream Sunday that sat in front of me. I could notice from the corner of my eye that Cora was looking at us with interest, a small amount of ice cream circling her lips as she listened to our conversation.
"I don't want to though." I grumbled as I twirled my spoon in my strawberry goodness.
"Lady you have no idea how hard it is to get a spot on that team." Liam said before shovelling a spoonful of his chocolate Sunday into his mouth and continued with his mouth full. "People try out all the time and never make it. No one’s fast enough."
"I didn't try out though." I moaned in annoyance.
Ever since phys ed this afternoon when coach had to pulled me to the side after class Liam had been harping to me to accept the offer to join the track team that was presented. I didn't want to of course, thus being the reason for our discussion. I rolled my eyes as I took a bite of my ice cream. I could already tell that Liam was far from giving up this discussion and I just wished he'd drop it.
He shrugged his shoulders at me and pasted his boyish grin at me. "You didn't have to." He stated.
"Don't remind me." I groaned as I pushed my ice cream and laid my head down on the table.
"You’re going to accept it Lady. If you don't I'll... well I'll..." Liam stuttered.
I narrowed my eyes at him as I glared. "You'll what?" I asked.
Sighing he shook his head and quietly said. "I don't know."
The table grew quiet now as we let the discussion drop away. I smiled over at Cora who was looking at me with her wide innocent eyes. "You should accept it." She said gaining a grin of her own.
I groaned again with frustration as my glare shifted over to Liam who was grinning ear to ear. "Yea sure, you jack ass, corrupt you sister to join your horrid plans." I twisted my face up into fake horror as Cora erupted into a fit of giggles.
His grin got wider as he noticed I was getting closer to caving. "What's the big deal Lady? It's just running."
"That's not why I don't want to join." I snapped at him in annoyance once again. Was he really not going to stop this discussion? I didn't want to talk about it. I wasn't joining and that was final. "It's the spectators I have the issue with." I found myself whispering in answer.
His smile faltered for a moment as he thought it over then grew even wider. "Never pegged you to run from your fears." He stated in amusement.
Oh he was pissing me off now. I never ran from my fears. He knew that. The cocky grin on his face said that he did. "I'm not afraid dip shit. I just don't like people." I snapped grabbing my ice cream and thinking hard about throwing the rest at his face. He needed to lose that grin he was wearing. "My mommy always says da best way to lose your fear is ta face it." I heard Cora say with a matching grin to Liam's as she looked at me with expectation.
"Well Cora, I'm not scared." I said looking at her warmly through my annoyance.
"Then join the team." I heard Liam say as I hissed and finally flick the ice cream from the end of my spoon at him causing Cora to erupt into laughter as it splattered across his cheek. Smiling devilishly I turned on her and repeated the same thing gaining a huge smile when the cold ice cream made contact with her forehead.
Next thing I knew Liam was flicking ice cream at me the same time that Cora was and I was hit with a double dosing of the cold treat. It was fair game after that and we chased each other out of the store in a full blown ice cream fight. It of course didn't last long seeing as we'd eaten most of our ice cream but it was enough to lighten my mood up.
