Something was wrong; I could feel it deep down inside of myself. Something was horribly and terribly wrong. I could sense that my mate was in trouble. It was almost as if my wolf could feel it, he was restless and damn near panicked. My father had left me alone in the kitchen while he went to check on my mother and I had the deepest urge to leave and find her. It was strong enough that I could feel myself resisting my father’s command to get to her. She needed me, she needed me now. I pushed away the salad I’d been making as I threw the dish towel I’d had over my shoulder onto the counter. I was just making my way to the front door to go find her when Greg came tearing through it with Lady and Liam slung over his shoulders. I could see the grim lines that were set in his face as he looked at me and shouted, “Find the pack doctor.” as he ran down the hall toward the infirmary.
My heart skipped a beat as my panic increased tenfold. She was hurt and by the amount of blood I could see coating her, and Liam, they both were, and pretty bad at that. My legs started moving quickly as I went to find the doctor. I knew just by the look on Greg’s face that this was a matter between life and death. I’d kill my father if anything happened to her, he was the reason I hadn’t followed them. He had stopped me from doing what my gut told me I needed to do and now, by the looks of it; my mates life could be in trouble. A growl tore from my throat letting everyone know just how angry I was. Anyone in the house would’ve heard it.
I raced through the rooms searching for the doctor before I realised that I wouldn’t find him. I’d meant it earlier when I’d told lady that no one aside from my family was here right now. My anger rumbled up from my chest as I made my way to my parent’s room. My father needed to locate him and bring him back. I forcefully opened the door to their room without knocking immediately turning to leave when it became clear to me they were copulating in their bed. I growled as I kept my eyes averted.
“What in the hell are you doing here?” Father shouted as I heard their bed shift. “You’re supposed to be in the kitchen Colt.”
“And mother’s supposed to be ill. I’m so happy to have found my parents fulfilling their baser needs while my mate’s life is on the line.” I snapped as I walked away.
I didn’t want to waste any time in finding her help and began to run turning into my wolf before I could reach the stairs. I was going to the creek. I’d bring her some of that water and she’d get better. I just knew it. With my destination in mind I descended the stairs quickly. I’d just passed through the hall and was about to go out the back door when I heard the front door slam.
“She’s in the infirmary.” I heard nick say.
I almost sighed with relief when I caught the doctor’s scent with him, but I wouldn’t be relieved until I knew she would be okay. Changing back into my human form I walked out into the hall to follow along behind them. I had no thoughts over my nudity; my only concern was my mate. I needed her to be okay. From what Nick had mentioned in the past we all did. She was going to be a very important person in this pack.
“You’re going to have to explain yourself sometime young man. I don’t know how you can possibly know these things.” The doctor muttered to Nick. His eyes widened with surprise when he saw my concerned face as I followed them along. “Colt what are you doing here?”
“She’s his mate.” Nick answered saving me the trouble of speaking when my throat was feeling like it was about to close up. “She’ll be okay Colt. She won’t be quite the same as she was but she’ll be fine.”
I found little comfort in his words. I knew that if anyone knew she would be okay it would be him. I had an idea of how he knew the things that he did. The only thing stopping the relief from flowing through me was his comment of her not being the same. What did he mean by that? How would this change her?
