Shawn was ready. It was time he maned up. He thought back over his past with this girl, starting with the the day they met.
Shawn walked into the preschool, new Harry Potter backpack weighing him down, clutching his mothers hand. They were greeted by a women. As his mother and the women chatted, Shawn's big brown eyes surveyed the room, taking in the friendly, bright colours and play areas.
Suddenly his view was blocked by the unfamiliar women. "Hello Shawn! Welcome to preschool! I'm Mrs. Taylor," she said brightly. Shawn, unsure of this new women- and rather shy- moved to hide behind his mother. This caused the two women to laugh.
Shawn's mother gently pushed Shawn forward, releasing his hand. "I'll be back this afternoon okay Shawn? Have fun."
Shawn looked up at his mother as his eyes filled with tears. He didn't want to be left alone in this bright place with the strange women. It was too late. With a peck on the cheek, Shawn's mother was gone.
"Don't cry hon, she'll be back before you know it," Mrs. Taylor tried to comfort Shawn.
"Who's this miss?" A small girl in a cherry red dress overtop of a white polo piped up. She had black hair tied up in pigtails with matching cherry coloured ribbons and cherry coloured shoes.
"Our new student Shawn Mendes, Lauren."
"Why is he crying?"
Shawn, embarrassed to be caught crying by the girl in the cherry dress, quickly wiped his tears.
"I'm not," he said defensively.
"Yes you are, your eyes are all puffy," she retaliated.
"Let's be nice Lauren. Could you instead show Shawn where to put his bag and where the bathroom is?" Mrs. Taylor shushed the girl.
Lauren's face broke out into a big smile. She loved being in charge. "Sure!" She responded cheerily.
She held out her hand to Shawn. Shawn, a little apprehensive of the small, loud girl in the cherry dress, simply stared at it, as if it might bite him. The girl rolled her eyes and grabbed Shawn's hand herself, holding tight.
Shawn smiled as he remembered how bossy Laur came across that day. Plus the cherry dress! She wouldn't be caught dead in that or pigtails nowadays. This wasn't the first time Shawn has attempted to pull a move on Laur. He'd had his first kiss with her when he was almost 12.
For the thousandth time, Shawn typed the numbers. He stared at the phone, willing himself to push the call button. Sighing, he went to hit cancel. However, for some unknown reason, the dial tone sounded and the call went through. Shawn's breathing quickened. He wasn't prepared! The ringing started. Shawn stood there frozen, unable to do anything but wait for the phone to be picked up. "Hello, Lauren speaking."
Hearing her voice snapped Shawn out of his trance. Clearing his throat, he responded. "Hey Laur, it's Shawn."
"Oh hey Shawn, whats up?"
"Um, I was just, uh, wondering if you could help me with my maths?"
"Pardon?"
"You see, you're the year ahead and well, good at maths and I'm having problems with, uh long division..."
"Yeah, okay, sure I'll help you. Do you want me to come over now?"
