'The number you dialled is unavailable.'
Shawn groaned at his phone. "Why are you doing this to me!" He complained.

'The number you dialled is unavailable.'

Ian laughed at his friend. "You look like you're about to break your phone," he commented.

"I am!! The sh*tty thing is broken! I'm trying to call Mickey and all I get is-"

'The number you dialled is unavailable,' the automated voice rang out for the third time.

"You sure she hasn't blocked your number?" Ian joked.

Shawn glowered at him. "Not funny. I'm just trying to get hold of her to tell her I'll be home in a week," he explained.

"I thought she was in Australia all summer?" Ian questioned. Shawn nodded.

"Same, but they must've only been going for three weeks or something because I saw her in her friends snapchat story."

"You follow her friends on snapchat?" Ian retorted, chuckling.

"Yeah, just her like best friend," Shawn quickly covered up.

"Whipped," Ian said quietly, nonchalantly looking at his phone. Shawn rolled his eyes.

"This connection, has caught my attention. How did this happen that we fell so out of touch? I mean, I feel as if I should've known she was returning home."

Ian laughed. "You overthink everything. Just slide into her DM's instead."

Shawn rolled his eyes, but did as Ian said, hitting Mickey up through her Twitter DM.

"I don't think she uses twitter at all, this is actually a nightmare," Shawn complained. He sent her another text, before throwing his phone onto the opposite couch.

"This is lame!!" He repeated. Ian just laughed again, seemingly enjoying Shawn's misery.

A week later, Shawn still had no contact with Mickey. He decided that it must be her phone and maybe she left it in Australia. Either way, he was going to go drop by her house, and see her, whether she knew it or not.

Pulling up outside her house, Shawn smiled to himself as he unclicked his seatbelt. He could not wait to see Mickey.

As he put one foot on the road, a dude appeared in front of him.

"Hey," he said, awkwardly scratching his neck.

"Uh, hi," Shawn said, praying he wasn't a fan.

"You date Mickey, right?" He asked.

"Um... yeah. Why?" Shawn replied, apprehensively. The dude nodded. His hair was blonde and fell into his eyes. He was lean but toned, wearing clothes that fitted him well. The next words that fell from his lips were threatening, in the worse way.

"I'm her ex."

Speechless and confused Shawn raised his eyebrows. The guy in front of him took it as a sign to continue.

"Hold on, time out, nothing to prove, let's keep this to ourselves," he began, "I just want to warn you about her." Blondey nodded in the direction of Mickey's house.

"Warn me?" Shawn queried, skeptically.

"Did you ever notice the girl sitting across from you? She's deceiving. Watch your back, she cheated on me when I thought we were going fine, I wouldn't be surprised if she did the same to you. I've seen her around with a different guy a lot so far, I just thought you should know."

"Why are you telling me this?" Shawn asked, not sure what to believe.

"I fell into her trap too. I thought you looked decent and I happened to be here to tell you. Good luck man."

"Er, thanks," Shawn said, as the blonde dude finally left him alone.

Shaking his head in bewilderment, Shawn bounded up the stairs to Mickey's house's door.

He knocked twice before entering.

The house was unlocked, but he couldn't see anyone in the main living areas.

He apprehensive walked up to Mickeys room, slowly pushing open the door. Creaking open, it revealed Mickey, eyes closed, earphones in, lying on her bed. A wave of pleasure hit Shawn- she looked serene. Shawn crept up beside her, carefully lowering himself beside her.

At the movement of her bed, Mickey sat up, almost knocking into Shawn. When she saw him, she shrieked, falling backwards off the bed.

"Shawn?" Mickey called.

Shawn was dying of laughter and couldn't string any words together. He reached out a hand to her, unable to control his amusement.

Unwillingly she accepted his hand, pulling herself back up beside him. Removing her earphones she scowled at him.

"Who gave you the right to barge in here like that?" She scolded him.

Shawn calmed himself down, but he still chuckled as he told her that the door was open. He noticed the bags under her eyes and her tear stained cheeks but was too excited about seeing her to comment.

"I missed you so much!" Shawn exclaimed as he slipped and arm around Mickey, leaning back onto her bed headboard, "Why didn't you tell me you were only going to Australia for a short time?"

Mickey stiffened, avoiding Shawn's gaze.

"Well, you see, uh, like, I..." Mickey stuttered, unsure of what to say.

At that moment, Mickeys phone dinged. She took this as a chance to avoid the questions and quickly snatched it up, checking the notification.

Her face paled and she unlocked her phone, furiously typing. Shawn rolled his eyes, suddenly becoming quite upset with the excuses.

"I sit in your room with nothing to do. You didn't tell me you were back from holiday, you don't answer my calls, I guess there's somebody else you'd rather be talking to. Don't worry I'm keeping both my eyes open, I don't want to share this with anybody else," Shawn said, getting up off Mickey's bed.

She quickly dropped her phone, looking up at Shawn with a pained expression.

"Don't be like that Shawn. Everything has it reasons, it's just, I don't know-"

"Stop that!" Shawn snapped, "I don't know who you are Mickey. Victim to the screen between me and you, I don't know who you're turning out to be. I'll tell you how it feels, and this is the hardest part, if you want to have something real, you can't have it in the dark. I don't know anything about you Mickey, and I'm starting to think I don't want to."

A tear slipped from Mickey's eye.

"Shawn," she said softly. "Please."

"No Mickey," Shawn started,

"I think I know what you did last summer."
