Life of the party

A week later, Shawn lay on his bed. Ian had been over and talking to Shawn about all the cool stuff he could do now that he was 'on his way up,' and how right the choice was to ditch Mickey.

Words of friends, his manager, his parents, sister, teachers, singers- the list went on- were all swirling round his head. He didn't know where to turn, who was right, who was wrong.

Maybe it wasn't for him, this life.

As he let that thought settle, he realised what he'd been doing wrong. Too many other people had been dictating his life and his path and most importantly his happiness. If Mickey Lowe made Shawn happy, who was it anybody's right to take her off him?

Abruptly sitting up, Shawn grabbed his phone. He had plenty of time left in the day to drive to Toronto.

He flicked his mother a text before jumping in his car. Before Toronto, he had a quick stop to make... he needed some flowers.

When he knocked on Mickey's door, bouquet in hand, Shawn's heart was in his throat. He couldn't take being rejected, he just couldn't.

Kate opened the door. "Hi Shawn! Why have you got flowers?" she asked.

"They're for your sister, is she home?"

She innocently smiled. "She's in her room. She's been in her room for ages now," Kate babbled as she let Shawn inside.

"Thanks Kate," Shawn said, chuckling.

He quietly knocked on Mickey's door before letting himself in.

"What do you- oh. Hi," Mickey said from her bed.

She was cuddled up in three blankets, leaving only her face and a poof of hair to be seen.

"Hey," Shawn grinned goofily, "mind if I join?"

Eyeing him warily, but opening a space in the blankets, Mickey allowed Shawn to place the flowers on her desk and snuggle up next to her.

"This is nice," Shawn commented.

"It is," Mickey agreed.

Silence fell upon them.

"So you're in my bed...?" Mickey half questioned.

"Oh, right," Shawn chuckled, "um, I want you- I want us back." He ducked his head into the blanket, away from Mickey's reaction.

Sighing, Mickey plucked at a loose thread. "Same," she said hesitantly, "but I can't handle the hate from your friends. I know they're your biggest support group and this will never work if they don't approve."

Shawn looked up. "Mickey, I came to a conclusion this morning," he started.

Mickey looked at him in confusion.

"We don't care what them people say," Shawn said proudly.

"But-"

"No," Shawn continued, "we don't have to be ordinary, make your best mistakes. We don't have the time to be sorry! I'm telling you to take your shot it might be scary, hearts are gonna break. Together we can just let go."

Mickey hesitated. "But what about the 'bigger and better,' Ian's right, you're only going to keep growing and you won't want little old me, you'll be after Kylie Jenner or someone," Mickey argued.

"When it gets hard, don't be afraid. Don't let them keep you down, you know you can't give up, on this, on us. I want you. I wouldn't have put so much time and effort into our relationship if I was going to leave you when the next girl rolls around. I like this one and I want to keep her," Shawn replied, pleading.
