Something big

Again, life settled into what it should be.

Shawn's first single was released, with great success, and his following doubled.

At the release party, Shawn introduced Mickey as his girlfriend to all his business partners.

The party was amazing. Shawn, all dressed up, walking around with a stunning Micky on his arm, smoozing and celebrating.

An entire party, held in his success. Shawn could feel that he was beginning to make it, finally after all the bumps in the road, it was starting to settle into place. Play the lotto you just might win it- he had proved to everyone he could do it.

Andrew texted him earlier, saying they needed to talk. Something big was happening, he could feel it in his bones. The knowing smiles the executives shared when they shook his hand, the recent shifty actions of his parents and the buzz of the room indicated that something was happening.

Soon after Shawn's arrival, Andrew tapped the mic.

"Hello, hi. If I could have everyone's attention please?"

The chatter ceased and the crowd shuffled towards the front of the room.

"We're here today to celebrate the success of our up and coming musician, Shawn Mendes-"

Shawn blushed from a mix of the room cheering and Mickey kissing his cheek- and waited for Andrew to continue.

"Yet, although he doesn't know this yet, we've had something big in the works for our young star. He's worked hard and we knew he wouldn't settle. Take a spark and start a fire... Shawn Mendes is going on tour!"

The claps were loud enough for the walls to break and the yells so loud Shawn wouldn't forget his name. Something big was happening.

He could picture it. A stadium full of phone lights waving in the air. His name, lit up in blue, SHAWN MENDES. A single spotlight. His best guitar. Soft strumming as the crowd sung along, thousands all there to watch him. The-

Mickey squeezed Shawn's hand, bringing him out of his trance. "Congrats babe!" She said warmly.

Shawn looked at her, and she could see the world in his eyes.

"They heard me when I thought they wouldn't listen, it's like a anthem that the whole world's singing! Mickey! This is so cool!"

He pulled her close before spinning her in the air, his excitement contagious.

His parents approached him, smiling.

"Are you happy Shawn?" His mother asked.

"Over the moon!" Shawn replied, "this is all I ever wanted and more."

His father smiled. "We're so proud of you son."

Aliyah came running up behind them.

"Do I get to go too?" She begged.

"If it's not during school time," their mother warned.

Satisfied, Aliyah bounced in glee. "Is Mickey coming too?"

"Of..." Shawn paused. Mickey couldn't follow him half way around the country! She had a life. She had family and school.

He frowned.

"Course," Mickey finished gently.

Shawn nodded, goofily smiling.

Aliyah squealed, running back off to find Kate.

Before they could discuss any further, Andrew interrupted.

"Feeling like a million bucks Shawn? So happy we're making this happen for you, it will seriously further your career."

"So excited, thanks man," Shawn said, with a little less enthusiasm.

Andrew didn't notice- or if he did, he didn't care- and continued, "this means more rehearsals, more songs and more meetings, you up and ready for all that?"

Shawn smiled. Work was good- it kept his mind at bay. "Yessir," he saluted.

Andrew laughed, patting him on arm. "You're going places Shawn."

Shawn turned around, only to be bombarded with more officials. He chatted and laughed, thanking them all over and over for the amazing opportunity.

Later that week, a video was posted, labeled "Shawn's first headlines"

The fans went wild, overjoyed to be getting the chance to see him in full concert. Shawn was scrolling through tweets some days later, chatting to Ian, who'd he'd mostly forgiven for almost running his relationship.

"Half of me is so excited, so pumped, so ready to get out there and do this, and the other half is so reserved, so nervous and so ready to crawl back into bed," he commented.

Ian rolled his eyes. "You are the most dramatic and emotional person I know. It's a like three month tour, not a four year war. Mickey will deal without you for that long."

I guess that's why Shawn kept Ian around, he knew what was going on before Shawn did sometimes.

"But do you reckon I'm ready?"

"Yes. You overthink everything. You're. Going. On. Tour. That is amazing. People will buy the tickets, the shows will sell out and you're on a road to fame. Now stop being emotional, it's weird."

After his words of wisdom, Ian refused to discuss the topic further. Shawn decided to take his advice and stopped thinking about it. He spent his days writing, practising and playing songs until he had every note down and every strum to perfection. If he was to tour, he'd do it right.

A month later, Shawn walked into his first concert venue in Toronto, ready for his first rehearsal on stage.

With Ian and Mickey by his sides, Shawn felt invincible.

"Raise us up, we're feeling high, they can't tell us anything, something big is happening!" Shawn exclaimed.

"Chill Shawn," Ian said, placing a hand on Shawn's shoulder. Mickey took his hand.

"Do you think they'll fill all the seats?" He queried, stepping up onto the stage.

The trio viewed the space. Shawn closed his eyes and imagined the night. Chanting, screaming fans, a pitch black stage with a microphone and single stool. A deep voice announcing, "now what you've been waiting for, Shawn Mendes-"

"Yeah I agree," Ian answered, interrupting Shawn's vision.

Ian and Mickey had both moved to the side of stage where Andrew and Ian's older brother Geoff stood.

Mickey said something inaudible and Andrew noted it down on his phone.

Shawn walked over, curious to what they were talking about.

"What's up?" He asked.

Andrew smiled. "Just sorting out tour details," he replied,

"making sure you'll never be alone."
