James pov
"C'mon James! Are you done?" My mom calls.
I grab some pens and a notebook, before jogging over to my mom.
"There," I breathe. "I'm done."
My mom smiles and hands everything to the cashier. The cashier starts checking out our equipment. Then she gets to a little notebook. One of my sisters probably got that. It looks exactly like Riley's diary.
It's green with pink and red flowers knitted on the leather cover. The book has about 200-300 pages, just like Riley's. Then, all the memories come back:
Flashback
"James... stop... please." Riley said in between giggles.
"I won't stop untill you give it to me." I said, still tickling her.
She shook her head and held the book close to her. "No,"
"Well then, I'm just gonna have to keep tickling you." I smiled.
"Fine, fine, just stop." She said, out of breath.
I released her from my grip and held my hand out, a lazy smile on my face. She rolled her eyes and put the book in my hand. I smirked, opening it up. I couldn't wait to see what her childhood diary would hold...
"Dear dairy,
Today, I went to Ashley's birthday. I was soooo excited. Ashley is Emily's freind, and I was going to a big girl party! But of cuorse, Emily had to ruin it. She spilled juce all over my dress! All of the kids made fun of me! Well, not all of them... Bobby G was mimicking me, and tears were coming in my eyes. Then, James, from dance class, told him to stop. He got me a napkin and wiped some of the juce off. He smiled and told me I was too beutiful to cry! I think I have a crush, but we'll see ;)...
Riley xoxo"I clapped my hands and shook my head slowly. Riley hung her head.
"Beautifully written," I said. "Great spelling, sentence structure and all."
"I was seven!" She argues. I chuckle.
"I remember that day," I smile.
"Yeah, me too," She said, a smile appearing on her face. "It was when I started loving you."
End of flashback
I thought, at that time, that Riley would love me forever. That she would be mine forever. I thought I would never lose her. But, I guess I was wrong.
I love you, Riley...
Riley pov
"I love you too, Jeff." I mumbled into his chest.
He rubbed my back slowly and gently. It felt right, being in his arms felt right. I know that I will always be safe in his arms, and that he will never hurt me.
Of course, the way I feel in Jeff's arms doesn't compare to the way I felt in James', but I try to push that thought away from me, whenever it comes to mind, which is often. James comes to my mind often.
It still hurts, because I put all of my trust in James, and he betrayed me. So there is a part of me afraid to let anyone in again. Well, except for Jeff. Jeff is different. I can trust him.
Eldon pov (rare occasion)
Its so hard to see Riley put all of her trust in my cheating brother, and absolutely none of it in James, who would kill for some eye contact with her.
I've never seen James so broken. Not over a girl, grade, even dance. Nothing's ever meant as much to James as Riley. He's never been so whipped for a girl.
"Eldon! Are you even listening?" James calls. I snap out of my daze.
"Oh, yeah yeah, continue." I say into the phone. Riley and Emily went home about an hour ago, and I've been talking to James since.
"Dude, I know she's with your brother, but I really want her back."
"I know, bro, I know. But, you gotta do something to get her back. She's not just gonna come running back because you want her."
"Man, I gotta ask you something."
"Shoot."
"Do-do you think I should just give up? Maybe I should let her be happy with Jeff."
"No. Definitely not." I say sternly.
I think that sorta shocked him. But I couldn't let Rileys heart be broken like that. She's a close friend, and I don't wanna do that to her.
"Woah, bro. Chill. I'm just thinking out loud." He says.
"Yeah, I'm sorry." I breathe.
"Nah, bro, it's cool." He chuckles. "But bro, seriously, is he treating her right?"
"Jeff? Oh, uh," I stutter, debating whether to tell him or not.
"Yeah, Jeff. Is he good to her?" James demands.
"Bro, I gotta tell you something..." I trail off.
"What? What is it?" He asks.
"How fast can you get over here?"
"I'll be there in thirty minutes."
That's the last thing I hear before the line goes dead. What did I get myself into?
James pov
I pull up at Eldon's driveway.
I asked if Jeff was good to Riley, Eldon paused and told me to meet at his place.
That meant Jeff wasn't treating her right! I swear if he dares lay a finger on my Riley- on Riley, I will beat him up. Really good. I will punch the poop out of him. Make hurting Riley the last thing he does.
I run up to his from door and pound on the door. Soon enough Eldon opens the door.
"Hey, bro." He says. "Sup?"
I was about to slap him for acting so casual, when I noticed his mom sitting near us on the living room couch. I quickly reorder my face features so that I have a fake smile spread on my face. I swear if his mother wasn't here I would have punched a wall down by now.
"Just chillin'," I reply. "Your room?"
He nods. "Yeah."
I smile at Mrs. Lupien and follow Eldon upstairs. We go into his room.
"Spill." I say immediately.
"Okay, here it goes.." Eldon breathes, getting ready to tell me.
With every word he says, I grow angrier. I can feel the smoke come out of my ears. God know what I'm going to do to Jeff...
