Marissa's POV
I really didn't want Chris to fight. My thoughts were in a mess. I wandered around the pack house when I heard noises coming from Chace's office. I geared up for the worst.
Britney: I can read your mind, you know. It's just me. Don't panic.
Marissa: Ok. I'll just open the door.
Britney was hunched over maps and weapons were strewn everywhere.
Britney: I'm finalizing the plans. They were a mess.
Without thinking, I blurted out that I didn't want Chris to fight.
Britney: I'll consider it but we need to throw everyone out there. No one knows what to expect.
Marissa: I understand that but...
Britney: But nothing. You will do as I see fit. Our pack is responsible for this. We will pay the price. Do you understand me?
Marissa: Yes. Alpha. I understand everything.
It felt like venom calling her Alpha now. Of course, she didn't know how I felt. She didn't have a mate. I left immediately. Back in my room, Chris was still asleep but someone had been in our room. The unfamiliar scent led to a note which read, "Dearest Chris, our offer still stands. Betray us and you will be killed." My eyes widened but I knew what I had to do.
At the appointed time, everyone gathered at the pack house. It was decided that all pack members who were not capable of fighting would remain here. Elders, mothers, daughters and only sons were not allowed to fight. Basically, non gammas weren't allowed to fight. Men aging thirty five on wards were to guard the pack house and the pack house ALONE. They were not to venture into the designated war zones. An alpha and a few gammas would remain just in case. Everyone was being organized into their groupings. As soon as they were placed, they were given a dose of the serum. No one knew where or when Adam and his army would strike.
By seven, everything was sorted. All three waves of fighters stood outside the pack house. Since Britney was heading the defense it was customary for a speech to be made. She stood on a table, proud. If only she knew.
"Only in times of war and desperation do we wolves bind together to ensure the survival of our kind. Only in war. Look around. I am not certain of the future. Some of us will not live to see the sunrise for our sun might set today. For your sacrifices the moon goddess shall be pleased. Your families will prosper. Today we fight for our families. Our mates. Ourselves." With a curt nod she got off the table and proceeded to speak to gammas.
I walked up to Britney who was dressed rather peculiarly. The rest of us were dressed comfortably because chances were that we were going to shift soon. I stormed up to her. She looked pretty calm for someone who was about to go into war.
"I'm sorry." She blurted out.
Sadly, my mind was already made up.
"I'm gonna run with Chris. Scout a little." I said confidently.
"Just you two alone?" she questioned.
"Yes." I kept it brief.
"I'm not supposed to do this but ok. Go. Let me know if anything happens." She nodded and sent me off.

I mind linked Chris, "Honey, shift and meet me outside. Close your mind to everyone but me. Ok?"
"What's going on baby?" he asked.
"Just trust me. Ok. I'm doing what I have to." I assured him.
I was almost to the border when I finally slowed down. Chris had joined me and I was facing Adam and his pure black wolves.
"I hereby declare that my mate, Christian Collins and I, Beta Marissa, break our ties with the Dalton and Mystic pack. We've come to join you." I said confidently.
"Haha. One of my sister's mighty Betas has come to join me. Preposterous." Adam mocked.
"I am securing our lives."
"I believe nothing you say. You're my sister's most trusted Beta. You're loyal to her."
"You're her blood. And what did you do?"
"Haha. Fair enough but I still don't trust you. Alex, Emmett, grab them. Thank you for coming to me dear Marissa. You just ensured me victory. My sister would never let me kill either of you." and with that he shifted into his wolf and barked orders. This was it. The fight was starting.
It didn't make sense to fight. We would only die faster if we did. I made a bad call and now it was about surviving.
Third person
Marissa and Chris had been gone for a questionable period of time. No one could reach them on their mind links. Britney assumed the worst.
"It's time and I suppose they got Marissa and Chris." Britney linked those in charge.
"Well, I guess it's time for me to go." Stephen replied.
Stephen, Cristal and Duncan led the first wave of fighters. It was not long before the second wave was needed. Adam's army was vast. Hybrids, vampires and few werewolves had joined together. They were fast and well equipped. It made one wonder how long this rebellion had been brewing.
Dylan, Cameron and Regina assembled their wave and set out to raise hell. The mind link was busy and the Mystics were coming back fast either wounded or dead. Britney, Scott and Blake, all being alphas, the strongest of the bunch took half the number of their wave and set out. Scott, Blake and most of the wave they had taken shifted into wolves whilst Britney and a handful of others remained human bearing stakes and guns with wooden bullets.
