I felt my eyes start to tear up from being open for so long as I stared at the spot where my tormentor from the past year was standing.
I thought I was turning emotionless? Apparently I wasn't.
Every feeling of betrayal and hurt and fear returned in a full blast, making me keel over and start to dry heave at the floor, the disgust of what he had done and my fear of him turned into a 'sickness'. I hacked up a ball of mucus-like substance while I saw Adam tense out of the corner of my eye. I tried to steel myself just enough so I could look up at Henry again, but I couldn't, not without remembering the look of extreme pleasure he had on his face as he ruined me, broke me.
I dry heaved a little more and a little more harder.
"I came back for you, Stacy. I love you." Henry's snake-like voice wound around me, squeezing me tighter and tighter just like a python so I couldn't breath. "Didn't you miss me?"
I heard what he was really saying. You were such a good little slave.
My head snapped up and I attempted to glare at him, but I was still too scared. A smirk rested on his features, the ones that had haunted me throughout the past year. My head ducked back down- I couldn't face him yet, or possibly ever. A small laugh escaped from his mouth, making it seem like he had won some odd prize.
How insane he seemed to me now. Now that I had almost gotten over the pain and trauma he had caused me, I could see more clearly than I had been able to since I was broken. I think it was the weeks of emotionless-ness. He was the sickest person I had ever met and probably ever would meet. I don't know how he was able to escape from prison after I had testified against him, because with my testimony and the evidence the police had had against him, there was- should have been no way for him to get out within the next five years.
Adam made his move then, as soon as he saw that Henry was focused on me. Which is a little wimpy, now that I think about it.
One of his fists whipped out and hit Henry exactly between his mouth and his nose, making a mark right away. That had looked painful. Henry stumbled back, slightly in shock of what had just happened, but mostly because Adam's hand was moving so quickly.
"Don't f*cking mess with my girl," Adam said simply. However, it would be impossible to miss the anger in his tone that made his face harden.
Henry recovered quickly enough though. As soon as he had recovered his balance, he launched himself at Adam (who was glaring through very narrowed eyelids), fists flailing and weaving, seeking his new-found enemy's flesh. I just fell into a seat and tried to hide from the memories that were swirling around in my brain with too vivid images. One of them demanded my attention more strongly that the others, and I was too afraid to resist.
The day after Henry had come in to 'check' on me, someone else came in, someone I had never seen before in all of my life. He promptly cut off of all of my clothes with an extremely sharp knife, and threw a cup of water at me. It was ice cold, causing a shiver to run through me. i had been cold enough as it was, but with my suddenly lacking clothes and freezing water, it was enough to make my bones cold.
I licked up what I could of the water from around my mouth, then let my head droop because I was physically incapable of holding it up any longer.
Approximately an hour later, Henry came back in, just as I was starting to shiver from the cold of the water and the dampness of the room.
"Henry," I cried out weakly. "You're going to save me, aren't you?"
Even in the dim light of the room, I could see the glint of maliciousness in his eyes. Another shiver ran through me, and this one wasn't just because I was cold.
