"Buchou? Are you okay?" Chinami looked up at Shiraishi, unsure why he was standing there with such a shocked face.
'Zaizen saw...seriously, that guy keeps getting luckier and luckier!' Shiraishi suddenly saw Chinami hand reaching up. By the time he realized what was going on, Chinami's hand touched his forehead. "Eh?"
"Are you sick? You're not responding."
"I'm fine! I'm fine!" He put her hand down again, trying to calm the butterflies in his stomach. "Ah...ermmm...Chinami, can I ask you a question? Why didn't you scream? Shouldn't that have been the most appropriate reaction?"
"W-we're all at camp. I didn't want to make things more awkward than it needed to be. B-besides! it was an accident and I am sure he wouldn't have gone up the tree if he knew I was nearby to clean myself up..."
"I see. You're thinking about us in the long term again?" If she had screamed everyone would have accused Zaizen of such a thing and bite his head off. Chinami thought about things on a rational level and she helped Zaizen explain the issue without turning it into something too weird. Chinami nodded at his question and he answered with a pat to the head. "Leave it to me. You don't have to do anything, just trust me, okay?"
"I trust you. What are you going to do?"
"You can't know. This is a matter between men."
"Okay..."
"Now then, why don't we find some edible plants like I planned?"
Shiraishi was collecting the plants that can be consumed into a basket. Since Chinami doesn't know what was edible, she needed to ask him before she put anything into the basket.
"Some of these berries are edible too. Ah, don't touch these ones."
"Shiraishi-buchou, your weird interest came in handy. I'll stick with you if there is a zombie apocalypse."
"I'll make sure to protect you with my life then." Shiraishi chuckled at her words and continued plucking the plants that were good to eat. "These ones are called Perilla. You can eat this."
"I found a lot!"
"Not that! Those are-!"
"Ah!" She felt a painful sting and she quickly removed the grip with her right hand. She can feel a sudden stinging pain on her palm and she looked at it to see it was slightly red. "Ow..."
"No, don't touch." He quickly opened his backpack and he took out a bottle of water. He opened the lid and slowly poured the cool water over the red rash on her palm. "I should have told you, Perilla and Nettles look very similar and you shouldn't pick them if you see them."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Just let me sort you out." Shiraishi then took out a clean cloth to dab her hand dry without rubbing the rash. When her hand was dry, he took out a roll of bandages to wrap on her hand. "This is so you won't touch it."
"Thank you, Buchou."
"You're welcome. It's sort of my fault that you got hurt in the first place so it's fi-Chinami?" Chinami stood on her toes and she planted a kiss on Shiraishi's cheek. The touch of her lips made his heart stop for a moment because he did not expect a kiss from her in a million years.
"I'm very glad you're here, Buchou. You really helped me."
"Ah-ah..."
"Shall we go back?"
"S-sure..." When he saw her back turned to him, he touched his cheek with a smile. "Yes!" He whispered it to himself in victory! A kiss to the cheek!
