t’s now my fourth day of work as a house keeper. From my first day of work, nothing has changed. Still, the trash bin in the kitchen is full of empty wrappers of processed and preserved foods. As a Chemical Engineer with a few background in Biology taking up Environmental Science in Masters, eating processed and preserved foods is not good not only in the human system but also in the environment. Imagine, if these wrappers were not disposed properly, it could take hundreds of years for it to decay. Plus, the preservatives can harm the lithosphere if large amount of it is disposed on land. It may result to bioaccumulation.
“Aish, why am I so over-reacting again?!” I told myself.
“Instead of thinking ‘so technically’! If Innah is just here, I could have cooked him... wait ‘COOK’? the house rules and regulations doesn’t say that I’m not allowed to cook.” I added.
After that bright idea, I grabbed my phone and called my little sister, Innah. Time Check, past 1pm. It’s past 12nn in the Philippines, good thing that it’s their lunch break.
“Innah, it’s me!” I started.
“Sis!!! Why? We’ve just talked the whole night last night!! But, It’s so nice to hear your voice again.” Innah gladly replied.
“Sis, can you tell me any easy Korean recipes that you know?”
“Oh, I think my lunch break won’t be enough to give you a recipe but you can check this website. I’ll send it to you in your email.”
“Okay, thanks! I’ll hang up now, sis. Just send my kisses to mom and dad later. Be a good girl, okay?”
“Sure, sis! I miss you so much. Bye and take care!.” Innah ended the conversation and hang up.
I opened the refrigerator to check, if Mr. Kim has some groceries and thank, God. He’s fridge is full of everything from meat down to the veggies and seasonings. My phone alerted for a message. Well, it’s an email coming from Innah:
‘Sis, as promised here’s the site: http://www.maangchi.com/recipes but I recommend you to try making an adobo bibimbap. It’s so yummy, promise :D for the adobo recipe, here’s the link: http://www.myfilipinorecipes.com/meat/. You can search the bibimbap recipe on the first link (maangchi.com). Happy cooking, Sis!!!’
“Adobo bibimbap sounds good and delicious. I guess Mr. Kim for has never tasted this before.” I excitedly told myself.
Immediately, I took out all the ingredients from the fridge and started cooking. I first cooked the rice and then the Adobo because, it takes time for the meat to caramelize while waiting for them to cook; I started to sauté the veggies needed for the bibimbap. Then last but not the least, I pan fried an egg. After, cooking the main ingredients, I artistically place everything in a big bowl like the way it was presented in maangchi.com
I really can say that a chef-engineer is now born. From the very aromatic delicious smell up to the way that my food is presented, no doubt Mr. Kim would not only definitely like it, he might even forget his name once he tasted it. After setting the dining table with few side dishes that I found in the fridge and of course, the adobo bibimbap as the main star, I brought out a small pile sticky note which happened to be pink in color (actually, pink is one of my favourite colors) and started to write in roman characters...
“Awww... Chin, you’re so stupid!” I told myself remembering that I should be writing in Korean characters but the only problem is that I know how to write but I don’t know how to construct sentences.
I texted Mi Rae to help me regarding this and asked her to translate the following message:
‘Hi, Mr. Kim! Hoping that you’ll like what I prepared. Happy eating!’
In no time, Mi Rae replied with these Korean characters. These might be the translation of what I sent her. Along these Korean characters is Mi Rae’s personal message to me:
‘Chin, cook also something special to me next time. Hihihi~’
‘Sure! Anytime!’ I replied
I put down my phone on the dining table and got another piece of another sticky note. I wrote down Mi Rae’s translation on it and stick it on the side surface of the bowl where the Adobo Bibimbap was contained.
“Gosh, I hope that my writing is good enough for him to understand.” I told myself as I observe my hand writing on the sticky note.
“I guess that he won’t know that a Filipino wrote it...” I added.
As I was staring on my hand-writing, my phone alerted for a message. I unlocked my phone. Just for information, I already disabled the lock code on my phone after I downloaded the Alive Galaxy Tour screen lock few days ago. Alright, going back, after unlocking my phone, a text message coming from Seung Joon flashed:
“Chin, are you free tomorrow? C’mon let’s go to Lotte. I know that you’re longing to come here. Don’t worry, it will be my treat.
