Stacey

I woke up early this morning, feeling a twitching pain in my lower tummy. Oh God. I called Jasmine the moment I open my eyes to ask her to bring me some fresh fruits today. She was not happy about the wake-up call, but since I'm her pregnant best friend, she didn't object. I sit on my bed trying to calm myself down. All this stress that I'm having my my life, my work, my relationship with Tyler, its not helping at all. I hear my door bell ring and I stand to get the door.

The pain intensifies and I grunt as I feel my baby kick. God! Baby, are you okay in there? I slowly walk to the door and open it. Its Jasmine.

"How are you feeling?" Jasmine asks as she helps me to the kitchen. It's past noon and I still feel the pain.

"I don't know. My lower tummy hurts. But it's bearable." I flinch as another pain shoots.

"Are you sure you're okay? Let's go and have you checked." Jasmine dials a number on her phone.

"What are you doing? I'm okay. I promise."

"What if you have a premature contraction? That's gonna be fatal for the baby. You can't risk it Stace, come on. The taxi's waiting downstairs." She says as she helps me with my purse.

"Aw. These are contractions all right. But its too soon. I'm still too early." I shake my head feeling dizzy.

"That's why let us have you checked. We can't just assume." Jasmine mumbles as we enter the elevator.

"Oh God... Jaz..." I shake as I feel something trickle down my thigh. I know I'm in deep trouble, no need for me to look down and check it.

"What?... Oh sh*t! You're bleeding! Oh God... What should I do? Are you in pain? Tell me..." She goes manic on me. The more she acts this way, the more I'm gonna lose it.

"I'm sorry to point this out, but this is your boyfriends fault! That douche is making his pregnant girlfriend worry! And where is he? Out partying!" I snap my head up at her.

"How did you know? I'm pretty sure I haven't told you about what happened last night." I try to breathe evenly to calm the pain. We walk out of the elevator and to the cab. The driver sees us and knew we need help.

"He called me this morning. Said he can't contact you. He told me about your conversation." She shakes her head while helping me massage my belly.

"Its getting better, but I don't feel him. He's not moving." I suddenly feel fear seize through me. My baby always moves when I ride a car. But not today.

"Oh God. Is that bad?" She whispers. "Can we go a little faster please? My friend here is bleeding, and she's pregnant." Jasmine glares at the cab driver.

"Vanessa took the call for him last night."

"What! That b*tch!" I notice how the driver glances at us when she hears Jasmine.

"I know. She said Tyler's been busy with her last couple of nights." I breathe heavily. Just thinking about what Vanessa said last night makes me wanna ring her neck.

"You believe her?" Jasmine shifts to face me.

"To be honest, I don't know what to believe anymore. And why was she the one who answered the call? Tyler let her hold his phone. That must mean something Jaz. I dont know. I really don't want to jump into conclusions, but what she told me last night makes sense. She might be telling the truth you know. Aw... Jaz..." I bend a little as another pain radiates.

"I'm here. Were here." Everything happens so fast. the next thing I know I'm in a stretcher and being brought to the emergency room. The doctor injected some medications on me and I see him explain something to Jasmine. I try to listen to what they're talking about but I can't seem to read what's on their faces.

"I'm going to check on your baby's heartbeat. Okay?" The other doctor says behind me. He's young. And good looking. He has this smile in his eyes telling me that he's happy.

"You look happy." I can't help but notice. He just gives me that smile again. I flinch as I feel the cold gel on my tummy. I wait patiently until I hear it. My baby. I sigh loudly when I hear the around echo through the room.

"Your baby's fine. You had a premature contraction. You're not dilated yet. So that's good. You're still early for that. I'll give you something to lessen the contractions and the pain. You must stay here overnight just to make sure. Would that be alright?" He asks as he checks writes something on his clip board.

"That's fine. So... The baby is..." I whisper.

"Yes., the baby is perfectly fine. These premature contractions are pretty risky though. We will make sure this will not happen again until you're on full term."

"What causes them? I mean, I'm eating healthy, I do my exercise and I visit the doctor religiously." Jasmine smiles at me when she approaches my bed.

"Have been through a stressful week?" The doctor studies me through his glasses.

"Uh mm..." What should I say? That my life is a complete stress inducer right now?

"The father of the baby is most likely the cause of all these stress doctor." I glare at Jasmine when she said it without holding back. "What! I'm just stating a fact Stacey! If it weren't for last night you wouldn't be here." I just shake my head at her.

"I suggest you avoid any stressful activities while you're pregnant. Bed rest is a must. Are you working?"

"Yeah."

"I'm afraid you would need to be at home, resting. You have to take a leave." The doctor says sternly.

"Wait. We can't decide on that right now. I mean, can I talk to my doctor and see what she has to say? No offense but I really can't do what you're suggesting." I shake my head. Feeling sleepy. Maybe they gave me a shot for that.

"No problem. Your doctor will be here in an hour, she will visit you in your room. Okay?"

"Okay." I nod at him.

After a couple of minutes I dozed off. The pain lessened until I feel no contractions anymore. My body feels weak. I let go and bring myself to sleep. There's only one person the comes across my mind before my eyes closed.

Tyler.
