Chapter 20:

(RAIN'S POV)

So now it was just the Sand and Leaf. Some of us jumped from tree to tree, a lot of us was on the ground carrying the injured and helping with supplies. Those jumping from tree to tree was on look out.

Mizuki and Kosuke was part of those Shinobis on look out. I watched as they hurried in front, scanning the area for danger before proceeding. Mizuki landed on a branch before looking back, his eyes scanning the group of Shinobis, his eyes found mine as he smiled and wave.

I laughed and waved back. His smile was transformed into a grin before he took off again.

"Rain?" Mao asked. She was walking next to me as she carried an injured child. It seemed like the villagers near by was also injured. We were to carry them to the Leaf, tend to them, and then return them back to their village.

"Yes?" I asked.

"Do you think we could've done something before the war broke out? Like.. we had connections to Obito, we could've done something." Mao said. I sighed.

"Even though we had connections, that doesn't mean we could've done anything. We didn't know that he was planning to start a war. Though, if we were informed before hand, we could've done something." I said while shrugging. I walked over and took the child in my arms, Mao nodded as she stretched out her arms.

The child was light, a girl. She was dressed in ragged clothes, skinny as a stick. I frowned as she groaned in her sleep. Her face twisted in pain as she cried and woke. She struggled in my arms before she calmed down and opened her eyes.

"Where am I?" She asked in a small voice. I smiled warmly at her.

"Do not fear. You are safe." I said with a closed eye smile. She looked up at me before nodded and falling back to sleep.

"I trust you." She said as she yawned. I nodded as I started healing her in my arms.

"That is true, but I mean couldn't we protect more of the Shinobis? So many died." Mao said. She sighed and ran a hand through her pink hair. Her blue eyes watering slightly.

"It was a war, those die, those live, it's just part of it. You did what you could, we all did what we could." I said.

"I know. But I felt as though we could've tried harder." Sora said as she slowed her steps and matched it with ours.

"You cannot change what has happened already. You shouldn't dwell on the past, those what ifs don't mean anything now. We have to focus on the present, what we do in the present will help with what happens in the future." I said. They both nodded.

Hey brother, there's an endless road to re-discover.
Hey sister, know the water's sweet but blood is thicker.
Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you,
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do.

Mao sang. A smile formed on my lips. Sora started laughing slightly as she shook her head.

Sora:

Hey brother, do you still believe in one another?
Hey sister, do you still believe in love, I wonder?
Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you,
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do.

Mao and Sora:

What if I'm far from home?
Oh, brother I will hear you call.
What if I lose it all?
Oh, sister I will help you out!
Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you,
There's nothing in this world I wouldn't do.
