Emma woke up due to the early morning sun shining in her eyes. She stood up and walked over to a mirror which was hanging on one of the walls. She was disgusted by the sight of her reflection. She saw that her pink dress was now dirty and torn, her hair was like a blonde bird's nest and she had no shoes on.
She decided she would go up to the top deck to ask Hook if he had any clothes for her to wear temporarily. As she reached the top deck, she saw him leaving through a small door at the other side of the ship. She strode over to it, hoping to catch him up, which earned her a few stares from the crew that were working on deck.
When she opened the door, she found that it opened up to a set of stairs that led to a wooden hallway with several doors along the edge. She wasn't sure which one he went in, so she knocked softly on the door, and when no answer came, she tried the door handle. It was locked. So she moved onto the next room, once again knocking on the door softly and then when no reply came, trying the door handle.
On the 4th door she tried, there was no reply to the knock, she tried the door handle and the door swung open, much to her surprise. She gazed in and saw a small mahogany vanity on the left wall. There was a small bed in the centre of the room, and along the right wall, there was a rack of women's clothing. She smiled and entered the room to examine the dresses closer up. She found them to be her size. For a moment, Emma wondered why Hook would have women's clothes aboard a ship full of men, but Hook's oddness didn't surprise her so she just shrugged it off.
She thought Hook wouldn't mind it if she borrowed one of these, it's not like he needed them. So she quickly changed into a simple dress. (a/n the media I have attached is the dress she changes into.) She made her hair look presentable in the mirror attached to the vanity and stepped out into the hallway.
Just as she did, Hook was coming out of another room further down the hall. As he turned, he locked eyes with her. He examined her new look as she approached him to explain but she stopped walking when she was close enough to see his eyes darkening. "Where did you get that?" He asked in a dangerously low tone. "I uh found a whole rack of these dresses in that room that I just left."
"And who said you could wear one of those or even go in that room?" To be honest, it would have scared Emma less if Hook had been shouting at this point. But no, his voice was scarily calm.
"Uhh n-nobody." Hook took a step closer to her and she cowered a little. "The what made you think you could go in there and put one on?" He was so close now that she could feel his hot breath on her neck.
"I-I just thought that you wouldn't need them, so it wouldn't be a problem." Her voice came out weak and pathetic as Hook stood towering over her like a thunder cloud ready to burst.
In one swift movement, he shoved her into the wooden wall and held his hook to her neck. Her head hit the wood pretty hard, and the impact winded her a little and she winced. His eyes were as black as jet as he stared with pure rage, hook pressed firmly against her neck, crushing her throat. This made it hard for her to breathe. "Don't you ever just presume that you can do something without asking me first." He shouted, finally exploding. "Please Hook, let me go, you're hurting me." She managed to wheeze out. His hook caught her neck, piercing the skin and warm blood trickled down her neck. Emma's eyes were filled with pure fear. What snapped Hook out of the violent haze was the realisation that the fear was because of him. She was scared of him, and he hated that.
Guilt started to settle in as he saw Emma's eyes begin to fill with tears, but none fell. With a worried expression, he backed off, releasing her from his grip, and she ran away. "Swan! Wait!" He called after her, wanting to explain himself. She ignored him and ran back to her room. Once there, she locked the door and let the shock and fear set in fully as a stream of tears rolled down her face. She sat on her bed and brought her knees up to her chest and hugged them tightly for comfort.
When Hook realised the big mistake he had made, he went to find Emma to try and explain. His first guess at where she would be was her room, she didn't know her way around the ship, so that would be the only logical place to go. When he reached her door, he knocked softly on the door then said "Swan, I know you're in there, please let me in so I can explain."
"No! I'm not going to let you in." He heard soft sobs coming from the other side of the door. He felt a pang of guilt because he was the one who caused this. It was his fault that she was now crying. "You don't have to let me in, just please let me explain why I did that."
"I don't want to listen to your excuses, what's done is done, can you leave now?" Hook sighed heavily and replied with "As you wish, Swan." And he walked away from her door slowly, knowing that he messed up big time.
Emma kept replaying the events over and over in her head and it just made everything so much worse. She remembered the murderous look he had in his eyes and the dangerous tone in his voice. The worst part was that she didn't even know what she did wrong. She only borrowed some clothes, she didn't think he would mind. They were women's clothes. She'd never been spoken to in that way by anyone ever, and that made it even more terrifying for her. She wondered what made Hook snap like that. There had to be a reason.
Unless this was how he really was, and she had just been seeing a facade that he had put up to be around her. But then again, why would he hide that part of him just for her? These thoughts just brought up more and more questions. She was naturally curious anyway, but she was fearful that she would set Hook off on a rampage again if she brought it up. She really didn't want that.
After his outburst, Hook went to his cabin and took his frustrations out on his belongings. He hated how seeing Emma in that dress brought up old memories. He hated how good she looked in it. It hugged her figure perfectly and made her look even more stunning. But what he hated most was how he had just lost it with Emma. He didn't mean to hurt her at all, he hated women being hurt, but it especially pained him to see Emma hurting. He didn't know why. Maybe it was because he caused it, but it hurt him to see her in pain when he found her, and he hadn't caused that.
After he'd vented his anger, he returned to the top deck. By now, everyone was eating lunch below deck. He really wasn't hungry, but he thought Emma might be. He had to at least try to talk to her again. So he silently went down to the kitchens and picked a bread loaf and poured a cup of fresh water for her.
He approached her room and knocked on the door with his hook, balancing the cup and plate in his only hand to keep it steady. There was no reply so he tried the door. It was locked. He rolled his eyes and set the bread and water down outside of the room. She would have to come out at some point.
