Four months later and Emma was a mess. She barely slept anymore so she found work at a tavern not far from the docks. She usually took the night shifts so her sleepless nights would be of more use. It also distracted her from that same dream she had every time she fell asleep. Well, it wasn't a dream, it was more like a memory. Seeing Killian kiss Milah over and over again was agonising to say the least.

Every time Emma closed her eyes, all she saw was those gorgeous sapphire blue eyes boring into her soul. It was like Killian's face was etched into the back of her eyelids, left there only to taunt her further, knowing full well she was never going to see him again. It was a constant reminder of what she'd pushed away, what she'd lost.

Emma felt completely lost without Killian, her life meant nothing. She just ambled about mindlessly plodding on through her day, stuck in a constant rut of work, eat, and work some more.

Emma had managed to buy herself a small rundown cottage with what little money she had. It was situated near enough to her work, quite close to the docks. Emma had grown to become quite fond of the ocean, but it was yet another reminder of the life she used to have.

The cottage only had one room to sleep in, and another that was the kitchen And living room joined together, but it was enough for her.

Emma's job at the tavern was far from dull, she got to meet new people, hear tales of the ocean from passing pirates. Another perk of the job was she could inquire about Captain Hook in order to check up on him every once in a while. Word spread easily among pirates, so it wasn't hard to find a pirate that knew about what Killian had been up to.

Every pirate knew of Hook and Emma's tale by now, but only a few recognised Emma if they met her in tavern. Many pirates believed Killian had moved on with Milah, and so that's what Emma was told. Of course, that wasn't the real truth.

The truth is that, no matter how hard he tried, Killian could not forget Emma. It was simply impossible. Milah had noticed it too, and was getting tired of it. She wanted Killian to look at her the way he looked when he was thinking about Emma, the way he used to look at her. It was obvious, Milah was jealous. She thought that with Emma gone, she would have her Killian back, to love and to hold all to herself Again, just like before.

But Killian was so hung up on Emma that he was still distant. He was with Milah, physically, but Milah could tell that Killian wasn't there mentally. Sure, Killian would kiss Milah all the time, and they had spent many a night together, but she could tell his heart just wasn't in it. Frankly, Milah was sick of it.

So, one night, about a year after Emma had left, Milah decided to confront Killian about how she felt. She marched towards his cabin and knocked on the door. Killian opened the door and smiled slightly when he saw Milah. "I need to talk to you." Milah announced, getting straight to the point.

"What is it, Milah?" Killian asked, opening the door open so Milah could come inside. She stepped inside and Killian shut the door behind her. "You're still in love with Emma." She stated sternly.

"She's been gone for a year. We've been over this before." Killian sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger.

"You're not denying it!" Milah accused, pointing a finger in his face. "I want to be your one and only again. I don't appreciate being second best to some wench that you haven't seen in over a year! When are you going you get in your head that she isn't coming back! You aren't going to see her again so you might as well just forget about her."

That was it. Killian snapped. "How?! How do you expect me to forget her when she's all I can think about! Yes, I still bloody love her, I still love her with everything I am! Is that what you wanted to hear?!" Killian yelled, finally losing it. Milah's face fell and she stared in disbelief.
