"Oh my God! You have no idea how worried we've been!" Snow cried as she embraced Emma in a bone-crushing hug. She gladly returned the hug and her father joined in. Tears were streaming down Snow's face. "Well I'm back now." Emma said, trying to be enthusiastic about it, but the truth was, she wanted to be back on The Jolly Roger with Hook.
Charming pulled away, and with a worried look, he asked "Did they hurt you? Those filthy pirates! I'll kill them for what they did!" Charming looked furious. "I'm okay, father. Actually, a pirate healed my wounds." Emma explained. "They're not all evil." Charming still wasn't satisfied with her explanation, but he dropped the subject.
"We must celebrate your return!" Snow said excitedly as they all walked inside. "Actually, I'm really tired. Is it okay if I just go to my room and rest?" Her parents looked at her sympathetically and nodded. She smiled and rushed upstairs to her room to be alone.
She still had the haunting image of Killian's sorrowful expression etched into her mind. she just wanted to run into his arms and tell him everything will be okay, but that was a lie. She wouldn't be alright now that she knew she would never see him again. It physically hurt knowing she could never gaze into those gorgeous blue eyes that she could spend an eternity gazing into. these thoughts caused a fresh track of tears to make its way down her face. She'd already cried the entire way home, she thought she was out of tears by then. her tears soon turned into sobs as she curled up into her bed. At some point she fell asleep with Killian on her mind.

Killian watched her carriage ride off until he could no longer see it, then walked back onto his ship. He shouted orders at the crew to set sail as soon as possible because he knew if he stayed her any longer, he would end up doing something stupid. His heart longed Emma to be in his arms again, to hold her close and never let her go. His deepest regret was not telling her how he felt. Now she would never know. He felt like such a coward. He was so afraid of her reaction, that he pushed his feelings to one side. It was true, he'd fell for Emma. He'd known for a while now, but never wanted to admit it to himself. He'd heard the saying "better late than never" many times before, but in his case, this was not true at all. He left it too long for fear of rejection and more pain. He couldn't deal with that again, not after Milah. His heart had shattered along with Milah's that day, but Emma had somehow managed to start piecing it together once more.
He was angry at himself for failing to tell her, now he had to live wondering what might have been. Over the next few days, he took his anger out on his crew. He always did have trouble controlling his anger, and now that Emma was gone, it was amplified. Hook punished his crew for the smallest of mistakes, and last week he accidentally beat one of them to death for reading the map wrong, causing them to go in the wrong direction. He hadn't meant to kill him, Hook just got carried away with the beating. Emma made him want to be good, but now she was gone, he had no motivation to be a better man.
He was also angry because he realised he lost sight of his true goal; revenge. He lost precious time whilst he was with the princess, so he was determined to continue with his mission to kill the dark one. He had to travel to a maritime kingdom next, for possible answers on how the crocodile could be killed. He claimed to be immortal, but Hook knew everything has a weakness, and he was the one to find it.
He had been away from Emma for a total of three weeks now, and not a day went by that he didn't think of her. He used rum to drown his sorrows, and lately he found himself drunk more than usual. This only fueled his violence and rage towards the crew, who were now used to the captain's mood swings. No matter how much Hook denied it, the crew all knew it was because of the princess. They saw how he looked at her, how he treated her, and hadn't even seen that when Milah was around. When she was alive, he was still a treacherous pirate, but around Emma, he seemed to revert back to the man he was before Liam's death. A man with honour, who was compassionate and kind. A man they hadn't seen in a long time.
-----------------------------------------
Emma's life as a princess carried on as it was before, as if nothing had happened. The things she used to enjoy doing now bored her, and she found herself resenting her life as each day went by. She longed to be on the deck of The Jolly Roger, to feel the ocean breeze sweeping through her hair, to be next to Hook once more. The life she had once known now seemed pointless now she knew there were much greater adventures awaiting. She didn't bother to listen in her classes anymore, and found herself feeling isolated and alone, even in a room full of people.
Although she loved her parents, she no longer wanted to be in their company for very long because they would just talk about how she must be married soon, and her becoming queen when she was older. She never wanted any of that. All she wanted was Killian.
One morning, about a month after leaving Hook, her mother called her into the lounge. Emma had a bad feeling because her parents usually didn't call her downstairs this late in the evening. She saw them sitting on the leather sofa with broad smiles on their faces. "Hello mother, father." she greeted with a bow. "Hello sweetheart." Snow's smile grew even wider.
"We have some very important news for you, dear." Charming said. Emma stared at them intently, willing them to elaborate.
"Emma, I'm pregnant!"
