Christmas Eve was here and before I knew it, I was helping Ava in the kitchen making chocolate brownies while the Ham was in the oven. We were laughing and playing with the flour and dirtying the whole kitchen. We both looked like ghosts.
Jason was just setting the table when Page and her family arrived. They all greeted us with a hug and made their way to the living room. Page joined us in the kitchen as Jason accompanied her parents. Ava's parents also came down stairs and they all were having coffee in the living room while we were attacking Page in the kitchen with flour.
After cleaning the kitchen, we head to my room to clean ourselves up. We were all dressed up in hats and green and red clothes with white fur. It was so cute.
Michael also made his arrival and headed straight to the kitchen where he begged for just a taste but got rejected. Johnnie and his parents arrived twenty minutes later just as the Ham came out of the oven. We all took a seat at the table and surprisingly, there was no tension what so ever. Michael and Johnnie were getting along swell and so were their parents and Ava's parents was just a delight.
We all enjoyed the meal and each other's company and after devouring the desert, we made our way to the piano placed next to the Christmas tree where Johnnie and I performed a duet we've been practicing for a while now but it was interrupted atleast three times because Johnnie started coughing. He apologizes and we continue. We also sang a few carols before handing out presents.
After that, we each found a spot by the tree and handed out gifts. First was Page. She got the skull from me, a pair of shoes from Mikey (he knows her style), a sweater from Ava (quite nice), a chocolate from Jason and a laptop from her parents.
Then it was Michael's turn. He got the picture frame from me with a cute picture of us from this year. We were chilling on the swings. It was a hot summer's afternoon after school and we decided to crash the park. We hung out there, played in the sand, pet some dogs, fed the squirrels and took a photo with my Polaroid camera. I loved that day.
He also got colon from Page, a sweater from Ava and a chocolate from Jason. It seems like Ava and Jason are just handing out sweaters and chocolates to everyone.
Ava got a necklace from me, a bike from her parents and a book from Page. The parents got gifts from their children; candles, handkerchiefs, deodorant, soaps, ext.
Jason got socks from me, Page and Michael, like he does every year. He has a whole collection of them and the expression on his face every year is priceless.
Johnnie got the scarf from me (he was trilled), a capo from his parents, a sweater and chocolate from Ava and Jason, a tie from Page and a card from his brothers.
Then is was finally my turn. Page made me a memory box. She's been collecting stuff for quite a while. It was all the notes we've written in class, the birthday cards, the rose Johnnie gave me when we went on our second date, the certificates from my piano, the poems she'd written, our friendship necklaces, Valentine's presents and a few inside jokes. It made me tear up that she went through all that trouble. Jason and Ava gave me a sweater and chocolate and Michael gave me a bracelet that read: "Forever"
Johnnie stood up and collected his gift from under the tree. It was wrapped in a little square box. I opened it and found mistletoe inside. It was neatly placed so that it wouldn't be damaged and it was still new. He took it out and held it just above our heads before grabbing me by my waist and kissing me in front of all the people in the room. They awed and applaud us and I turned a darker shade of red that made Johnnie want to kiss me more.
It was a perfect Christmas and it felt like my family wasn't that broken. With all the people I care for deeply in the same room sharing love, I couldn't help but smile the whole time.
When it got late, everyone decided to go home. Page was first to leave and then Michael. Johnnie and his family left shortly after Michael and I got one more kiss before the end of the night. Ava and her parents are staying over so we all head to bed. Jason slept on the coach and Ava's parents slept in his bed. He didn't mind though.
Ava and I ate again before going to bed. We ate some of the cinnamon buns that Jason bought and took Oreo's and milk upstairs with us and fell asleep a few hours later.
