"So are we going to talk about it?"
I was sitting in my bedroom staring at my complexion through my vanity. Ever since we had returned, Braden never left my side and was starting to annoy me.
I wasn't as helpless as he thought. I swiveled around to face my older brother and rolled my eyes as I said, "You wouldn't believe me even if I did tell you the truth - which I'm not by the way."
I still could't believe what I had seen back there, were they visions or just hallucinations brought on from the stress and the bad lighting? I tried to convince myself it was the ladder, I mean if we were being honest, I didn't want to face the fact that I might possibly be just a little crazy.
Braden sighed heavily before saying,
"You know I am on your side Leylila! You can trust me!" I didn't give him a response to which he plunged on for anyways.
"Look, all I'm saying is that I'll believe you! If we are being honest... I felt that weird chill I think the same time you did and that scares the hell out of me."
Braden moved from where he was standing in the corner of my room and sat down on my bed leaving a heavy indent from his body mass.
"I just want to know what the hell happened so that when I return later to the site I won't be bloody scared out of my mind!! So yes, I believe you Leylila, do you believe in me?"
Me being the sarcastic asshole that I was, said, "pretty speech but not as pretty as the girl waiting for you in the courtyard."
Earlier I had noticed a beautiful woman with tanned legs and ebony black hair stroll into the courtyard and sat at the bench near a pond with swans swimming freely in. She seemed to know the layout so I simply thought she was one of Braden's girlfriends. (emphasis on the no spacing between girl and friend.)
But the way Braden looked at me made me squirm in my seat and finally give in.
"Fine! You asshole! I'll tell you!" I grumbled out.
I really didn't want to re-live this so I looked back into my vanity mirror and closed my eyes for a second to breathe and picked up my brush and thoroughly worked the tangles out of my hair.
I had recanted everything that had happened to me that night but I only vaguely told him about the visions, nothing specific. But that was only because those scared me more than any dancing hieroglyphs could. Once I was done with my little story time corner I sat up straighter and looked at a wide eyed open-mouthed Braden.
I slammed my brush on the counter not liking his response and said with a touch of grumpiness in my voice, "Well?"
He just looked at me and nodded closing his mouth and said under his breath "Bloody hell."
Thats right around the time that I lost my shit.
I was throwing and yelling at Braden to get out but as he ducked behind my door to hide from the assault I was giving him, he said,"Leylila I'm going down to the labs to look at some things but I promise you, I don't think you're crazy!! I just want to help you!"
"A lot of help you did just now!" I quipped.
But braden had already left and I sat down once more to look at the person staring back at me from my vanity mirror. Her golden locks almost so pale to be considered white and eyes like the deep blue of the pacific ocean. My lips were a rosy pink and I knew I was pretty, but at that moment I felt dirty, unclean, and alone.
I sighed as I got ready for bed and fell asleep having only nightmares of a devilish Pharoah that was so beautiful it made my heart flutter and stop all at once.
