Spencer-

He'd gotten the job. There was a break week so he, Sarah, Angie and some other co-workers were getting their work on.

"Spencer! Get some more ice cream from the back will ya?" Angie shouted.

Sports were doing their conditioning this week, and the only day they'd get off was the Fourth of July.

"To be people playing Sports, I don't think they should be eating this much ice cream." Sarah muttered, while tossing an empty bin into the trash pile. He'd have to take that to the big dump too.

"With this heat, I can't blame 'em." Spencer dropped two new buckets of ice cream into the slots. He sat back in a nearby chair and proceeded to take out his man bun.

"Spencer. Your hair is so long." He heard Sarah mutter under her breath. There wasn't anyone in the shop now except for Sarah, Him, and Angie. It was almost five, so the shift was basically over.

"Sarah, help me put this ice cream back in the freezer." Angie pulled Sarah into the back room. Spencer heard them hissing at each other for a minute or two.

He decided to see what they were talking about. He had the feeling that they were talking about him. There was nothing wrong with a little eavesdropping.

Right?

Spencer walked back around the counter and picked up a bin.

"Are you kidding me? No!" He listened to Sarah hiss.

"You know what? Just go." Sarah came stumbling through the flap that guarded the back from the serving area.

"Whoa. Y'all forgot the bins." Sarah would have rammed straight into the bucket of ice cream Spencer was carrying if he didn't catch her by the shoulder.

"Yeah. Thanks." Sarah dusted off her black pants. He was suddenly aware of how much taller he was than her.

The awkward silence returned. They stared at each other.

"Should we put these in the back then?" Angie piped up from behind Sarah. It took a second before Spencer realized he was staring and shook his head slightly.

"Yeah."

They began an assembly line where Spencer opted to be in the coldest part. He stood in the doorway of the freezer. Sarah would place the lids on the ice cream, then hand them to Angie, who would give them to Spencer. His job was to put them in the right place according to its label.

Once that was over, they began to lock up. Angie locked the door as they chatted outside.

"What are you guys doing for your day off tomorrow?" Spencer was now comfortable with his small talk. He'd have to thank Corey for talking to him all those conversations in the dorm.

"We're going to the beach tomorrow with some friends. You wanna come?" Angie twirled the keys in her fingers as they walked back to their dorms.

"Wait, Angie where are you going?" Sarah asked.

"Oh yeah! I rented an apartment for the summer! I'm living there with some of my other friends."

They began to chat among themselves as they walked. "Which swimsuit are you wearing tomorrow? It's supposed to be really sunny, so I think I'm wearing my orange and yellow one." Spencer walked behind them. They seemed to have forgotten that he was there, so Spencer decided not to listen.

Spencer's thoughts tried to wonder otherwise, but when he accidentally heard Sarah say "Blue or pink. I dunno." He couldn't help but think of what kind of bathing suit it might be. If that's what they were still talking about of course. Spencer justified that he heard it because he didn't want to accidentally match bathing suits.

Not that he was thinking about going.

They'd walked to their dorms. Angie had parked in front of the girl's dorms. He was about to walk inside when Angie shouted. "See ya there Spencer! We'll start at 10 a.m. sharp! Be there or be square!"

Well, now it would have been rude to refuse wouldn't it?
