Am I really gone?

I woke up. Everyone around me was crying. Even the kids that we had freed moments before. Max was sitting beside me, looking at me. Tears were streaming down his face.  "I'm okay, Max," I said, "I'm alive."

He didn't seem to hear me. I sat up. Something felt off, I didn't know what though.

"HEY!" I shouted, "I’M OKAY EVERYONE, LOOK, I’M ALIVE!"

They didn't hear me either. I stood up and looked at Max. He was still sitting there, he was staring into the blank green eyes of....my body. I saw myself, I was lying there, not moving.

My mouth was curved into a small smile. My green eyes looked up at the blue sky. Long red hair spread out to form a fiery halo around my head. The silver dagger was in my hand, it was stained with black blood. There was a gaping hole in my stomach, black blood was overflowing from it. I was dead. I was gone.

That had just occurred to me. The blood of the Furie had killed me. Samantha Fay was just a memory now. I looked down at my hands, they were silvery and I could see straight through them. I was a ghost, only a ghost of my former self. I lost it.

I started shaking my body. "WAKE UP!" I screamed, "WAKE UP SAM!" I shook my lifeless body for what seemed like hours. I screamed and pleaded to the Guardians to let me live again. Katie walked up to my body.

She took her hand and closed my unseeing eyes. I wasn't going to wake up, not ever again. I sat there beside my body and cried.

I didn't cry because I was dead, I cried because Max saw me die. My friends, they saw me suffer and die. Those kids, they saw it too. Max now didn't have a sister to fish with him and tease him. Our parents and family members all died in the Massacre. I was all he had left, and now I was gone.

My little brother, all alone in the world. I cried for him. I cried for Thomas. I cried for Katie. I cried for Greg and Erik. Because they saw it all. They heard my screams, they saw the blood. They heard my last breath. They saw me shed my last tear.  I didn't care if I was dead. I only cared about them.

I watched as Thomas picked up my limp body. He walked out of the front gate with everyone else following behind. It was silent except for the sound of feet against ground. They walked until they found a clearing in a meadow.

"Are you sad that you are dead?" Asked a voice.

I spun around. A man with long black hair and greenish white skin stood behind me. His eyes were pure black and he wore a cloak embroidered with skulls.

"No," I said. "I'm sad because they saw everything. They saw me die. My friends...they are all I care about. I don't care if I'm dead.” I paused for a moment. “Let me guess, you’re Thanatos. The Guardian of Death.” He nodded.

We watched as they began to dig my grave in the meadow. Erik could have made a hole in seconds, but I bet they did it this way out of respect.

"If you had a chance, would you live again?" He asked. I thought about it for a minute, and nodded. "Why?" He asked.

I smiled. "So my friends wouldn't have to live with the guilt of not being able to save me. So that Max wouldn't be alone. I have no reason other than that."

He crossed his arms. "I can grant you life again, but only for a while." He looked at me with sadness in his eyes. "You haven't won yet. There are more Furies out there. That camp was only a small part of their plan."

I clenched my fists. There were more of those Satanic monsters? I watched the hole get ever deeper by the minute.

I turned towards Thanatos. "Give me life again. And when this is all over, I will gladly die."

He smiled."I must warn you. The Furies can only be killed by heavenly silver. They were once Animegas who were power hungry. They sold their souls to Damean, the Demon guardian. Because of this, they cannot die by ordinary means. Heavenly silver is pure and good, it reacts with their evil bodies in such a way that it kills them. Reducing them to a pile of sludge.”

“Yeah,” I commented. “I saw more of that than I needed.”

"One more thing," he said, "take this pack." He handed me a black backpack. "It is weaved from magic and is virtually bottomless. Inside the Guardians have placed a weapon that will suit each of the Elementals. Use them well."

He snapped his fingers and I sat up. I was in my body again. Someone screamed and everyone’s eyes glued onto me.

There was a tugging sensation in my gut. I watched as the black blood disappeared from my wound and the hole closed up, leaving behind a thick scar. People started cheering and asking millions of questions at once. I just laughed and explained everything the best I could.

Now that everything was okay, it was time to finish our new mission. We have to wipe out the Furies. We had to save the world from falling into the hands of darkness. That was our mission, and we couldn't fail.
