Goodbye

I drew an arrow and aimed it at Forctis, he would be the first to die. The arrow flew towards his heart, I was so sure that it was going to make it. But then he caught it with his hand, a small trickle of blood ran down his palm. He let the arrow clatter to the ground, it stuck in the grass at his feet. "Now, now," he taunted, "do you really want to do that?" My eyebrows furrowed together, my lips pulled back into a snarl. A high-pitched growl resonated from my throat. I could feel my teeth shrinking and becoming sharper, my nails grew longer and my fingers slowly shrunk back into my palms. The bow and quiver began to shrink into my erupting fur. The rust-red fur eloped my entire body, a pair of ears sprouted from my head.

"Yes." I growled. "I really do. You killed Alex, you killed Max, you killed thousands of children. You aren't going to hurt anyone else, you and the other Guardians are finished!" My bones shifted and shrunk into the structure of a fox. A white tipped tail grew from my backside. My hind legs bent, bringing me closer to the ground. Then, I pounced. My teeth wrapped around Forctis' neck, I clamped down as hard as I could. I could faintly hear someone shouting my name, but I didn't care. The high-pitched growl resonated again. The more he struggled, the harder I bit down on the soft skin of his neck. Something hit my side and I was thrown from my prey.

A boy with blond hair and dirt-brown eyes held a club. He wore a dark denim jacket over a black shirt and jeans. The blond hair swooped naturally at the hairline, and would have covered his eyes if it would have been any longer. He was familiar, he looked like Erik, but at the same time he didn't. "Erin." Damean gasped.

Erin smirked, his sly smile was full of evil and hate. "Hello, Damean. You look...pale, as usual." His eyes strayed over to me, the smirk vanished from his lips. Erin's head cocked to the side, his eyes narrowed. "For a second I thought you were Alex, but it can't be. She's dead." The smile returned to his lips. "I made sure of that." My legs bent into a crouch, my lips pulled back into a snarl. The way he looked at me, it made my fur stand up straight.

Forctis rubbed his neck where I had dug my fangs into his flesh. Erin turned towards him. "Are you alright, father?" He shouldered the large club.

Forctis scowled. "I'm fine." He turned back towards me. "Samantha, I'll give you one last chance, surrender now and we'll let your friends go free." My eyes flickered between him and Erin. Between his hard glare, and Erin's smug smile, my answer was already made up. Liar, I thought. I snarled at the mass of Guardians that stood before us. They wouldn't let my friends go, they lie. That's all they know how to do, lie and deceive. I stood protectively in front of my friends.

The fur disappeared along with the foxy features. My bone structure changed back into that of a human. The bow and quiver reappeared on my back. Erin stared at me in shock, but the surprise vanished almost instantly. "Huh, you really are the exact copy of Alex." he shrugged. Erin took a step towards us and I drew an arrow.

"I dare you to take another step." I threatened. "None of you are getting an inch closer to my family."

Forctis smiled cruelly. "Your family? The only family you had left is dead."

I looked back at Max's still body and shuddered. My eyes raked over everyone else, they all looked at me. Some were scared, some looked determined. My mouth curved into a smile. "You're right, they aren't related to me." I turned back towards the Guardians. "But I grew up without a family, without a Mother or Father. It doesn't matter if they are my real family. I love them and care about them, and I know they love and care about me. A family isn't just blood, its a bond between people. One stronger than friendship, one a thousand times stronger than hate. They are my family, and I will do anything to keep them safe."

Forctis frowned. "Well, if you aren't going to waver, I guess I have no choice." His hand raised itself, then dropped in a dramatic swoop. The Guardians raced forward, weapons at the ready. Taking in a deep breath of air, I notched an arrow and let it fly. There were gunshots, screams and the sound of metal against metal. I kicked off my shoes and dug them into the grass. The plant wrapped itself around enemy feet. It didn't keep them there for more than a second or two, but it gave us the advantage.
