Damean had lead us to a hall with about 20 different bedrooms. They were all about the same. A four-poster bed, velvet couch, large wardrobe and a door leading to a bathroom. He made sure that they were all next to each other. The chambers weren't too far from the ballroom, so we could bolt at a moment's notice if needed. Max and Sara shared a room with me. I allowed them to take the bed, and I took the couch.

It wasn't that bad of a trade, the couch was heavily cushioned. Besides, I could become a fox and not even take up half of the area. When Max and Sara were fast asleep, I snuck out and made my way to the ballroom.

"Damean." I whispered. "Damean! We need to talk." Wow, never thought those words would come out of my mouth.

"Yes?" Asked a soft voice from behind me. I jumped and turned around.

"Don't. Ever. Do. That. Again." I growled. Damean smirked and leaned against the heavy oak doors. I remembered his little meltdown earlier today and smiled slightly. I was scared of him for nothing. He was just a weak, scared kid who tries so hard to intimidate us. But now that I saw through his trick, it didn't affect me.

"There are some things I want to ask you." I said.

"Shoot." He replied cockily. It was too funny. I just saw him throw a temper tantrum and now he's Mr. Cool. It was so hard to not laugh.

"Why didn't the Guardians kill me? If your story about the Animegas is true, then there is no magic. Therefore, Katie, I mean Megan, couldn't have cast a spell to hide me."

He looked down at the marble floor. "Oh no." I snarled. "Don't do that again. Don't you dare shut down and refuse to give me answers. I didn't sneak out just to see your pasty face."

"I don't know." He muttered

"What?"

"I don't know! I wasn't apart of the massacre; I just sat on the sidelines, too scared to stop them. They didn't tell me anything, I don't know." His voice ended in a whisper.

"Okay, then why go through all of this trouble to make me hate you? The Furies, the camp, sending Thomas into a coma for almost a month? Why?" I pressed.

"Tch." He scoffed. "The 'Furies'. Let me ask you something, why are the Guardians so scared of them? They aren't that hard to beat."

"It isn't how strong they are, it's what they represent." I quoted. "That's what you said."

He shook his head. "Those aren't Furies. They are just Animegas who have the power to kill anything they touch. A special race created by Thanatos. The true Furies have yet to reveal themselves."

I blinked, that's all I could do. The shock nearly paralyzed me. All this time, I wasn't killing Furies? I was killed by one of Thanatos' little experiments? "Yet to reveal themselves." I repeated. I shook my head, trying to get rid of my clouded thoughts. "Then why did they fight with you?"

"I can be very convincing if I want to." He replied. "It helped that they didn't want to be Thanatos' slaves."

"You didn't manage to convince me." I scoffed.

"I wasn't trying. Plus, you're very stubborn."

We stood in silence for a while. The portal cast a dim blue light.

"I really am sorry." He said. "I didn't mean for it to go as far as killing your friend. But he was going to kill you, I was just acting on instinct."

"Instinct?" I questioned.

His violet eyes strayed over to the portal. "You just...remind me of someone I knew, long ago. She was stubborn too. She was bright and funny. And all she wanted to do was protect the ones she cared about. But...her trust in people was the reason that she-" his voice cracked.

"I'm guessing that's the reason that you're so keen to keep me alive. Because of your friend." He seemed very different now. All of the hatred and cruelly in his eyes was gone. That didn't happen in someone who was evil. Then again, no one was truly evil. Everyone has good in them, even if it is a shred. But that little sliver of goodness can grow. Maybe that's what happening with Damean. Suddenly, his story seemed very real. My thoughts strayed toward the Guardians, the last time I saw them. Their faces were so twisted with fury, they knew that Damean would tell us the truth. Fury...could it be that they are the true Furies? I tried to think of Sylva's kind smile, her tinkling laugh. But all I saw was that cold stare, her teeth bared in anger.

"Damean, what was her name?"

I saw his eyes lock onto mine. "Alexandra. Her name was Alexandra."

Suddenly, memories that were not my own flooded into my mind. War, fire, fighting, death. That's all I saw. The memories were too much, black started to cloud my vision. "Damean." I tried to shout, but my voice was barely above a whisper. He caught me before I hit the ground. His voice barely reached my ears. He was calling for help. Thomas, Greg, Calypso and Katie rushed in all at once.

Thomas yanked me away from Damean, my eyes began to close and I saw silver eyes looking at me desperately. I was barely aware of his arms shaking me. The memories continued. There was a group just like mine. 6 kids, one of them had bright red hair and green eyes. Damean stood off to the side, arguing with Calypso. A girl that looked like Katie was laughing. A boy with brown hair was talking to her, a smile cracked on his face. And a boy about my age with blond hair was talking to the girl with red hair. Then he memory dissolved into a new one.

The blond boy held a sword. The girl was crouching over the small brown-haired boy, tears running down her face. The little boy's eyes were glazed over, one of his arms was missing. The girl turned around to the boy behind her. He thrust the sword through her stomach and twisted it. Damean's face twisted into a scream. He threw the boy away from the girl. Damean held her in his arms as she died. Tears ran down his face as she whispered something in his ear. She fell back, dead, her unseeing eyes looked up at the stars.
