Bonus chapter...
❤Joe❤

All afternoon I spent looking for a job.

My parents told me that I need to learn some responsibility. So, what better way to prove my responsibility than getting a job? I also need to start saving my money up if I want to go to college and get a car. I have a license but I don't like driving. I had stopped at multiple stores and small businesses to see if they would like an extra hand.

My best friend had agreed to drive me around all day if I bought him lunch. Liam has been my best friend for five years. We met each other in high school. He is saving up for college as well, so he decided to look for jobs with me. I think it would be cool to work with my best friend.

It was late in the afternoon when Liam dropped me off at my house. I saw Shadow lying in front of the door and I smiled at the sight of my best friend-no offence to Liam. Then I heard it. My smile disappeared. As soon as I stepped out of Liam's car I heard my parents yelling at each other. They argue quite a bit and whenever it gets really bad, or I get tired of hearing it, I go to Liam's house and hang out there for a while.

Liam saw my expression and gave me a sympathetic look.

"Do you want to hang out at my house for a while? My parents won't mind."

Of course his parents wouldn't mind. I'm like the second son they never had. Liam is an only child, and before I came along he was very shy and didn't have many friends. I didn't have many friends either. Maybe that's why we got along so well.

I thought about going to Liam's house, but then I remembered the whole talk my parents gave me about responsibility. I sighed and shook my head.

"Nah. I think I'm just gonna listen to music and fill out some job applications."

He gave me a reassuring smile. "Alright. But call me if you change your mind. I'll come pick you up, or you can just walk over. It's not that far anyway."

"Thanks Liam. I'll see you tomorrow."

I closed the car door and walked towards my house. I heard Liam drive off behind me. I let out an exasperated sigh before I opened the door.

"Well, here goes nothing," I say to myself.

I was greeted with silence as soon as I opened the door. The yelling had stopped. I looked up from the door knob and I saw my mother sitting on the coach, sobbing. My father was standing across the room, his back to her, rubbing his temples. His eyes were closed until he heard me walk in.

A non-humorous laugh escaped his lips and he looked away from me for a split second before meeting my eyes again. He looked back to my mother and shook his head.

"Did you ever once think about Joseph?"

His voice was full of disappointment, anger, hurt. My mother continued to cry.

"Did you even stop to think about how this would affect him? How this would affect his life?"

She still continued to cry.

"What's going on?" I finally asked.

Usually my parents argue over my mother spending too much money on shopping, or my dad spending too much time with his job. Sometimes after they argue my mother will disappear for a while. I don't know where she goes, but it always worries my dad to the point where he's not even angry anymore, just worried.
