A new day has begun… a new chapter of my life. Cue my dramatic sigh as I climbed out of Nicholas’s green hummer and looked at the handsome face who gave me a kind smile, “Good luck, Blu.”
I nodded at him and closed the door. Immediately I ran into someone. We both huffed as we fell down. This reminded me of the time I got out the first day and ran into Shade…
Please, don’t be Shade, I prayed in my head and slowly looked, it was a girl around fifteen with dirty brown hair that looked like it just started to grow and dull brown eyes. She had dull features but absolutely beautiful. She looked up and frowned, “Sorry, I’m new here, I was looking down at the map and I didn’t see you. I’m so sorry, are you…?”
I smiled, “It’s alright. I was new once too, are you okay?”
“Yeah,” she looked around grabbed her bag, she grinned and then it fell. She looked around once more and a small noise of sadness came, “I-I… No, it can’t be gone…”
“What?” I asked.
She sniffled, her eyes reddening, “A toy, and a rabbit toy. I had it since I was young, my parents gave it to me when I was a baby.”
I looked around and frowned as I picked up a gangly sickly, faded blue rabbit with exaggerated long ears, one ripped down the middle. I blinked: whoa, why do I feel like I’ve seen this before? I held it up, “Is this what you’re looking for?”
She grabbed it and grinned, content, “Yeah, sorry, um, it’s really, really old.”
“It’s okay,” I muttered, “Um…”
Just leave, Blu, I told myself.
But suddenly emotions came over me and I realized how lost when I came here first, if I hadn’t had Luna or Derek to show me around, I would be completely loss. There weren’t many students, barely ten students in my class but the school was so huge, it looked like the White House copy on the outside.
“My name is Blu,” I said.
“My name is Miranda,” she told me, smiling. Her eyes glanced up and I saw pain in them, one was paler than the other like… I didn’t want to ask, it’d be rude. You wouldn’t ask someone you barely know “are you sick or something?” Sounds rude when you think it out, doesn’t it?
“Welcome to Los Angeles’s most elusive academy,” I offered her another grin and reached grabbed her bunny and stuffing it inside her bag. I zipped it closed and patted her back, “I’ll show you around.”
She nodded and followed me into the school. She smiled at me, “Thanks for doing this for me; I’d be lost for centuries.”
“You’re a sophomore?” I asked her and she nodded. I smiled, “Why are you transferring this year?”
“My parents died in a car crash last winter, I went to live with my grandmother,” she smiled but it was filled with sadness, “I was in it, it was brutal. It was amazing; I got out with only minor burns… they barely hurt. They were hurrying me to the hospital because I was getting sick…”
