There was fire. But it wasn’t the vision from before. I was in the plane from my past, and I see flashes. My mother, my sister, people next to me… I looked at the way where the siren came only to be blinded by the sun. It went white. I closed my eyes, took a breath, and looked up, taking the world in… processing it like I was a computer of some sort.
“Blu?”
“It’s dark.”
“Open your eyes don’t look, but see,” a voice told me, it was familiar but I couldn’t exactly pinpoint where I heard it before. I opened my eyes, I felt blinded because all I saw was white. But the color dimmed to show a pale blurry face, pale blond hair, and striking violet eyes. Evangeline was standing before me in a dress, she wore a plain white shirt, a pale blue jean skirt, and silver flip-flops. She frowned, “Hello, my name is…”
“Evangeline, I know.”
She blinked, slowly her mouth formed into a smile, “Yes, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“Where am I?”
“I’m trying to warn you.”
“Warn me of what?”
“The world you live in isn’t as it seems. It’s a… hallucination, a world that doesn’t truly exist,” she frowned, “Its fake. It’s like watching a movie, you get so caught in it that you believe it’s happening… you feel fear, happiness… but when you look away you realize… it’s just an image. Don’t look. See the world as it truly is.”
“What?” I frowned, “What do you mean ‘its fake’?”
She grabbed my hand, “Remember your old life, and remember everything. Remember the moment you were in the crash. It took me thirteen years before I finally saw. Now, I don’t look. I watch the world, I watch the simplest of things.”
I closed my eyes, “I’m so confused.”
“They block your vision, hide the outside world and show the movie. Find the people ready to open…”
“Like who?”
“Who do you truly trust?”
“You.”
“Who else?”
I frowned, “Shade. I shouldn’t but I do.” I couldn’t look up, what she would think of me. He loves her.
“He won’t tell you the truth,” she whispered. I looked up, she wasn’t angry… she looked at me with sympathy but her eyes glowed, “But he will show it…”
I blinked, “What’s the truth?”
She frowned, “I can’t tell or show you. I can hint you. Only your guardian can show it. Let him save you.”
Save me…?
My vision went white once again and I lost Evangeline. When the white disappeared I was in the plane, but instead I was surrounded, my mother’s eyes in tears and my sister gripping at me. The police took them away, both of them protesting. Heidi reached out to me, I wanted to reach back.
But I couldn’t.
I took a breath as I awoke; I pushed my hair back frowning. I got up in a hurry and rushed to the bathroom. I unwrapped my wrists and found them almost healed. I smiled but it disappeared… don’t look, see.
The cuts took a day to heal. They were two or three centimeters deep, the bled for an hour, and now they are scabbed over and healing good and fast. How did it take so quickly? I frowned and went to the shower, taking my shirt off; I threw it over my shoulder and heard it dunk into the basket… I looked curiously to my pants and without aiming, I tossed it over my shoulder and it got into the basket.
I finally took off my underwear and stepped in the shower, frowning. Thoughts ran through my head. Why couldn’t I reach out? Why were they crying? Why were they alive?
It’s a dream, my common sense told me, and they’re supposed to just show your conscience…
I have a messed up mind.
It took you a while to figure that one out.
I looked up, the water flooding down my short neck to my short body. I breathed out and closed my eyes, letting water run over my face.
I can’t believe I’m so caught in my world that I realize I’m in the kitchen, dressed and ready for another day of school. But it took me time to realize that it was the weekend. I sped through the week, ignoring everyone. Including not-so-now-outcast Miranda, she instantly became friends with… yes, Kit. Poor girl, I feel her pain.
I grabbed a carton of orange juice and poured myself a cup, looking up I see someone through the window. I dropped the glass and weirdly, it didn’t shatter, it just banged the ground and landing on its side. The juice forming into a perfect oval. I looked down to see the drink and back up the window, I run to the backdoor next to the window and screamed out, “Little girl, where did you go?! Little girl!”
